Hull’s café scene has had a lovely boost this year, with a handful of new openings offering relaxed spaces, comforting food and the sort of places you want to linger a little longer. From brunch favourites to cosy lunch stops, these five new cafés are already proving popular with locals.
One of the newest additions is Esca, which opened in spring at Monks Way Retail Park. It’s a stylish café with a friendly, easy-going feel and a menu that really delivers on flavour. The name comes from the Latin for flavoursome food, and that definitely rings true here. Breakfasts are a big draw, with smashed avocado on sourdough topped with feta and sun-dried tomatoes standing out, alongside burgers, paninis and jacket potatoes for later in the day.
You can find Esca at Unit 3, monks retail park, Hull HU7 3NS, and updates and opening times can be found on their Facebook, and Instagram.
Next up is AP Deli on Anlaby Road. Hull mum Leanne saw an opportunity and decided to create her dream café, which she now runs alongside her daughter and a close friend. The counter is always tempting, packed with cakes, brownies, salads and cake pots, while the wider menu covers hot and cold sandwiches, omelettes, breakfasts and comforting lunch options.
You can find AP Deli at 1038 Anlaby Rd, Hull HU4 7RA, and updates and opening times can be found on their Facebook.
Over in West Hull, Cozee Cafe really does live up to its name. Run by husband-and-wife team Ana and Okan, it’s a warm, welcoming spot with a seriously stacked menu. Expect hearty breakfasts, hot sandwiches and indulgent sweet treats like waffles, brownies and French toast. The steak and cheese toastie is a favourite, and you’ll also find affogato and Dubai chocolate brownies on offer, all served with genuinely friendly service.
You can find Cozee Cafe at 73 Bethune Ave, Hessle, Hull HU4 7EH, and updates and opening times can be found on their Facebook, and Instagram.
East Hull has gained Springs Cafe, a bright, community-focused café that works well for breakfast or lunch. The menu includes full English breakfasts, pancakes, sandwiches and seasonal specials, alongside milkshakes and good-quality coffee. The small team are all trained baristas and work closely with local suppliers, keeping everything fresh and well done.
You can find Springs Cafe at 22 Dalsetter Rise, Hull HU8 9JF, and updates and opening times can be found on their Facebook, and Instagram.
Rounding things off is Lily’s Bake House, a cosy, dog-friendly café run by Jules and her mum Joy, and named after their gentle dog Lily. Dogs are very much part of the atmosphere here, often snoozing under tables while owners enjoy homemade cakes, Ploughman’s platters, Scoff Scoff Biscoff pancakes and cracking coffee.
You can find Lily’s Bake House at 429 Holderness Rd, Garden Village, Hull HU8 8JN, and updates and opening times can be found on their Facebook, and Instagram.
