Students across Hull have today received their GCSE results.
Early data from secondary schools in Hull shows that 69 percent of pupils have achieved a standard pass, grade 4 and above, in both English and maths. 47 percent of these have achieved a strong pass, grade 5 and above.
Councillor Shane McMurray, Portfolio Holder for Children’s Services said: “I’d like to congratulate young people in Hull for completing their GCSEs. It’s been a really tough time to be a student and a teacher, but both have put in the extra effort and I hope for each and every child getting their results today that it has paid off.
“GCSEs aren’t the end, it’s only the beginning, and if you didn’t get the result you wanted like I didn’t first time; then have a break, dust yourself down and keep going. Well done everyone!”
Young people now have access to a range of options in their next steps, from full-time education at a sixth form or college, to apprenticeships, or part-time education or training.

We will continue to work together to help young people achieve their full potential.

Janice Mitchell, Principal at Boulevard Academy said: “The adversity faced by this year group is greater than any in our lifetimes. Their experiences throughout the pandemic have resulted in our students becoming more resilient and well-rounded young people, who are therefore more prepared for working life. I know they will be successful in the future due to the skills they have developed this year.”
Results remain provisional until the Department for Education issues more detailed examination results later in the year, and the figures have been confirmed.
