New Board Members appointed at Hull Truck Theatre

Hull Truck Theatre have appointed five new Board members to sit on their Board of Trustees.

As a registered charity celebrating National Trustee Week (7 – 11 November), the theatre relies on the support and guidance of its Board to provide high-level strategy, oversight and accountability.

Natasha Barley, Chris Jacobsen, Sue Allan, Francesca Leone and Petter Lautin will help guide Hull Truck Theatre over their three-year term. In addition, two new Councillors Councillor Bisby and Councillor Pritchard have recently joined the board of trustees to represent Hull City Council, a key partner and supporter of Hull Truck Theatre.

Their appointments come during a poignant year as the organisation celebrates its 50th anniversary. The new board members will make sure the theatre fulfils its mission, is well run and operates in ways that are safe, honest and responsible.

They will endeavour to shape the future of the theatre bringing a varied set of skills which will help the theatre evolve over the next 50 years.

The new board members will offer fresh perspectives on audience development and community engagement– amongst many other areas. They will facilitate Hull Truck Theatre’s continued contribution to the city and the region as a key voice in arts and culture.

Alan Dix, Chair of The Board at Hull Truck Theatre:
“Hull Truck Theatre is a cultural organisation of regional and national significance with its roots in Hull and its people. The newly appointed Board members reflect our determination to be ever more inclusive, with a diversity of voices representing the many communities that make Hull Truck relevant to audiences across the North.

As we celebrate National Trustee Week with these new appointments, we also prepare for the opportunities and challenges of the coming years. The contribution of all Board members to Hull Truck Theatre’s development and stability will be both invigorating and essential”.

Natasha Barley is currently the CEO of Hull & East Yorkshire Children’s University. A multi-award-winning charity that works with philanthropists, trusts and foundations to enable children living in care and children from disadvantaged backgrounds to fulfil their potential.

Natasha is passionate about ensuring all children have access to the arts. Hull Truck Theatre is a hub for culture and drama in the city which motivated Natasha to join the board.

Chris Jacobsen runs Hull-based marketing agency, Slice, and has a keen interest in the arts. As a firm believer in the role culture can play in society and the regenerative effect it can have on the local area, his aim is to help keep Hull Truck Theatre at the centre of the local agenda and to aid the establishment in its continued advocacy of the city; as well as its work promoting original and challenging productions.

Sue Allan is a very active member of the Association of Chartered Certified accountants, also representing ACCA on the Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies UK. Susan is very proud of the city where she grew up and is looking forward to being able to give back by using her commercial and accountancy skills to ensure the continuing success of the theatre for another 50 years.

Francesca Leone is a junior doctor in Hull and has always loved the theatre having experienced their first theatre acting job at 17. As someone from a working-class, central European background, Francesca shares the vision of the Community Dialogues Programme, where she hopes to be an advocate for young people and children gaining access to the theatre.

Petter Lautin Chief Executive, CyByL Technologies, was the former MD UK and Sweden of Panda Security, the leader in cloud-based security solutions. Prior to that he was global Vice President of sales and operations for anti-virus company AVG, and before that was MD of Symantec Nordic.

Janthi Mills-Ward, Executive Director at Hull Truck Theatre:

“I would like to thank Sophie Buckley, Paul Clay and Steve Gallant the long-standing board members who are now stepping down at the end of their terms after offering us invaluable support over the years.

They have offered us guidance during a critical time and have helped make Hull Truck Theatre what it is today.

“Following a thorough selection process for new Trustees, we are delighted to welcome Natasha, Petter, Francesca, Sue and Chris, five exceptional, highly skilled and committed individuals joining our board.

As we enter the final part of our 50th anniversary celebrations we look forward to working with the new Trustees to help shape our next chapter of growth and development.”
