New city centre deli to open on Princes Dock Street

Princes Dock Street is to benefit from a new delicatessen thanks to a Levelling Up Fund (LUF) grant.

Watalot Limited will refit the ground, first and second floors of 17 Princes Dock Street, using the £92,500 grant which they have matched for a total project cost of £185,000.

In a decision record published by the council today, the refurbishment will see the ground floor transformed into a new delicatessen outlet/shop unit with a tenant selling specialist foods, whilst the first and second floors will become two rental studios and one two-bedroomed rental apartment.

The funding, from monies awarded to Hull City Council in 2021 by the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC), will see the building stripped and refitted across all floors, with new internal and external decoration, repairs to box sash windows as well as new heating, lighting, electrical and plumbing systems.

The project will bring over 3000 sqft of unused space back into use, and when occupied by the new business will create up to three new jobs.

Cllr Paul Drake-Davis, Hull City Council’s portfolio holder for regeneration, said: “Princes Dock Street is already a vibrant part of the old town and this will be a great addition to it.

“LUF continues to provide excellent opportunities for new businesses to flourish across the city centre.”
