A new exhibition at Hull History Centre highlighting the contribution and sacrifice of Hull’s Jewish community during The First World War will open next week.

We Were There Too is produced by We Were There Too: British Jews in the First World War, a project which has developed a website covering military and social history.

Alongside the exhibition, the History Centre is relaunching its programme of monthly lunchtime talks. On Tuesday 14 March at 12.30pm, historian Paula Kitching will be speaking on with “Kosher Fish and Chips on the way to the Western Front“.

Cllr Alison Collinson, Chair of Hull Culture & Leisure Ltd said: “This exhibition highlights the part Hull’s Jewish community played in World War I, whether in the military or on the home front.

“It reminds us to learn from history and remember those who suffered in war over a century ago.”

This free exhibition runs from Tuesday 14 to Thursday 30 March and is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays each week.

There will be also be an opportunity for people to share their family stories with the project team on Tuesday 14 and Wednesday 15 March.

Anyone who may have Jewish ancestry can research their family history with assistance from representatives of We Were There Too.

Admission is free to the talk and the exhibition.
