New ‘half-on half-off’ parking to help traffic flow and protect grass verges

Residents will soon benefit from better parking provision on North Road, west Hull

Starting next week, block-paved areas will be installed within the grass verges on sections of North Road, allowing vehicles to be parked half on and half off the road.

The new on/off carriageway parking will help ensure residents and visitors have somewhere to park, without affecting the flow of traffic or damaging the grass verges.

A similar parking arrangement already exists in nearby Calvert Road, where it has proved very successful.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, Portfolio Holder for Roads, Highways and Transport, said: “On relatively narrow but busy roads such as North Road, it is a difficult balancing act to provide on-street parking that does not obstruct traffic.

“This ‘half-on half-off’ parking will allow traffic to flow, protect the verges, and ensure there is plenty of parking for residents and their visitors.”

The work is due to begin on Monday 16 January and is expected to last for about four weeks.

During the work, there will be no parking on North Road outside numbers 147- 263. Two-way traffic flow will be maintained at all times.

The scheme is being carried out by MB Roche on behalf of Hull City Council.
