A new bar and restaurant is set to open in Hull’s Old Town.

The former Argos store in Market Place is the subject of a new planning application to transform the building into a sports and entertainment facility. The developer, Nagra Properties Ltd, has submitted the application to Hull City Council.

Chris Kendall, a planning consultant, said on behalf of the developer, “The intention is that the premises will open at 7 am primarily with the intention of selling hot drinks and breakfasts.”

The new facility, referred to as “The Venue,” will offer sports coaching for cricket, darts and golf, as well as food and drink. The planning application estimates that the development could create up to 56 jobs if approved.

“Part of the unit will have a bakery counter, this will sell food and hot drinks for consumption on the premises and to take away.”

“From late afternoon onwards the emphasis will shift to larger meals and alcoholic drinks. It is likely that alcoholic drinks will predominate later in the evening,” said Chris.

The Venue will be open 19 hours a day for some of the week and will feature live entertainment, along with food and drinks. The emphasis will change throughout the day, starting with hot drinks and breakfast, then morning coffee and food, followed by lunchtime food and drinks, and then non-alcoholic drinks and snacks in the afternoons.

The Venue will open every day at 7 am and close at midnight on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, and 2 am on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. However, on Bank and public holidays, the premises will close at 2 am.

Chris Kendall stated, “It is acknowledged that in addition to complying with any planning conditions relating to hours of opening, the licensing regime can also impose restrictions.” The facility will replace a former microbrewery, taproom and visitor centre, which recently expired its planning permission.
