An NHS team will visit Hull this week to speak to people about staying safe as the city adjusts to life after lockdown.

The outreach workers will be based at Asda, Mount Pleasant on Friday April 30, talking to shoppers about the importance of regular no-symptom testing, vaccinations, and the continued need to follow local and central government guidance.

Hull is one of 100 areas around the country to host the team, who have worked with Hull City Council’s public health department.

Julia Weldon, Director of Public Health at Hull City Council, said: “The outreach team has visited Hull at other points during the pandemic and has always been well-received. We get information on Coronavirus out to people in a lot of different ways, whether that’s advertising, speaking to local journalists, our council magazine, via schools or on social media. This is an additional way to reach people and ensure absolutely nobody misses out, and can ask any questions they might have.

“Some of the really important things they will talk about are the restrictions which are still in place, and the need for everyone to now take regular no-symptom Coronavirus tests. It is wonderful that the city is opening up again and people can socialise. But doing more also means we need to take extra care.

“It is crucial that we continue to follow hands, face, space, fresh air and to make use of no-symptom testing. One in three people with the virus does not feel ill and doesn’t know they have it. This kind of testing picks up these cases – people isolate as normal and the virus does not spread”.

If you have a temperature, cough that doesn’t go away or food tastes different or of nothing, you could have Coronavirus. If you have any one of these symptoms, immediately isolate at home and book a test for people with symptoms here: https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test.
