Things might be looking up, but we still have some time to go before live events are back on around Hull. In the meantime, we’re coming across some pretty decent online events you can enjoy at home that give you a break from the usual TV. Check out the top 8 events happening online this week…

The Picture of Dorian Gray

Shows daily from Tuesday 16 March to Wednesday 31 March

We’re all missing the theatre right now, but Hull Truck Theatre have partnered with other UK theatre groups to bring us The Picture of Dorian Gray which stars Joanna Lumley and Stephen Fry.

In a profile pic-obsessed, filter-fixated world where online and reality blur, influencer Dorian Gray makes a deal. For his social star never to fade. For the perfect self he broadcasts to the world to always remain. But as his mental health starts to decline, as corruption and murderous depravity start to creep into his world, the true and horrific cost of his deal will soon need to be met. The show addresses some pretty dark themes that are suitable for a 16+ audience.

Tickets are just £12 per device – available here.

Riverdance 25th Anniversary

Wednesday 17 March, 7:30pm

A stunning film of the new, re-imagined Irish dance and music show that won over the world 25 years ago. It was filmed live in the 3Arena Dublin where it premiered and on the exact 25th anniversary of its first performance.

Tickets are £17.50 per device – available here.

The Virt Locker

The Virt Locker is a weekly comedy show featuring some of the best stand-up comics around the UK right now. Another brilliant comedy line up on zoom this Friday night which sees Russell Kane headline. He’ll be supported by Jo Caulfield, Jarred Christmas who’ve both been guests on Mock The Week along with Andrew Bird who’s supported Rhod Gilbert and Michael McIntyre.

Tickets are £15.50 per device – available here.

Hull Noir 2021 – Crime Writing Festival

Friday 19 & Saturday 20 March

This Hull festival has been going for a few years now, but due to the same reason as we’ve heard many times before, it’s gone online this year. The festival kicks off on Friday night with a conversation with Peter Robinson who’s best known for his Yorkshire-set novels featuring DCI Alan Banks.

There are more guest speakers available to watch on the Saturday. All events are free, although donations are welcome. Details here.

To Hull And Back Festival

Saturday 20 March, 4-11pm

This online music festival has been created with a view to showcasing small independent bands who are missing out on the exposure from festivals during the pandemic. Think Humber Street Sesh but with Nottingham Bands too. The Adelphi have had a huge hand in this as well.

To Hull and Back will be streamed on 20 March from 4pm and available to watch on I’m Not From London’s Youtube Channel and The Adelphi’s Facebook channel!

Hull Comedy Lounge – Saturday Night Live

Saturday 20 March, 8pm

Hull’s full-time comedy club has been hit hard during the pandemic like many other venues. They’re now streaming live comedians direct from George Street on Saturday night’s to keep you entertained. This Saturday’s line-up looks like a belter!

Magical Bones – Black Magic

Saturday 20 March, 8pm

He’s one of the biggest emerging names in street magic today after his appearance on Britain’s Got Talent. Magical Bones effortlessly combines intricate sleight of hand with jaw-dropping break-dance moves in one of the most awe-inspiring show’s you’ll see this year.

In addition to wowing the nation on BGT, Bones has also been entertaining international audiences with appearances on US television’s Penn & Teller: Fool Us, as well as having a critically acclaimed and totally sold-out run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
