Lockdown restrictions are gradually easing, and we are finally able to look ahead for live events happening in Hull. Whilst we’re still homebound, check out some of the online events available to help keep you entertained this week…

Cosmic Carol: Mars for Beginners

Tuesday 30 March, 1:30 PM – 2:30 PM

This fun, family session by Cosmic Carol will be a wonderful engagement for young children to begin an interest in space, science and, most importantly, Mars! This Mission to Mars will be exploring the past, present and the future of this planet. Hull Libraries are hosting this event via Zoom.

Pen to Print: Writing Together Non-Fiction Workshop

Tuesday 30 March, 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM

If you’ve ever wanted to put down your thoughts into writing, then this workshop by Pen to Paper will be perfect for you. Ruth Beale and Amy Feneck are both artists who work together at the Alternative School of Economics, and this online event will be focused on using artistic movements and other artists’ work in order to teach you how to write a manifesto- a document to publicly express your ideas, opinions or beliefs. So, no matter if you have any experience or not, you can come along to the session and learn how to turn your thoughts into art.

ARCADE presents Up Front

Wednesday 31 March, 10:30 AM – 11::30 AM

International Women’s Week may be over but there are still lots of discussions to be have about women’s place in work, and this event focuses on women who work in the arts. ARCADE is a community producing company that will be talking with Emma Rice about supporting and inspiring women working in the arts, and is a trans-inclusive space for women and non-binary attendees. Emma Rice is a theatre director who was Artistic Director of The Globe and now is Artistic Director of her own company, Wise Children. The host, Rachael Abbey, is a writer, performer and Co-Artistic Director of the Hull-based theatre company The Roaring Girls.

Feel Good Art Club: Drawing Class

Thursday 1 April, 6 PM – 7:30 PM

This workshop by Sheffield Museums will not only be about approaching still life drawing, but also mindfulness to help create a relaxed and calm evening developing your drawing skills. Donna Brewins-Cook, a practicing artist and professional tutor, will be giving you constructive feedback and advice during the session. It is open to those of all levels of experience who want to have fun improving their drawing skills. This session’s theme is ‘Inside Out’ and you’ll be drawing the inside of natural objects.

Escape Bar Comedy

Thursday 1 April, 7:30 PM – 9 PM

This is the first virtual comedy night by Escape Bars UK, to help keep you entertained until you’ll be able to come for live shows in the summer. This event will be hosted by Eshann Akbar, an Escape Stratford regular know from Mock the Week and QI, with a fantastic first line-up of comedians.

Sindhu Vee has appeared twice on BBC Two’s Live at the Apollo and, in 2002, she acted in two very popular Netflix shows: Feel Good and Sex Education.

Lucie Pohl is a stand-up comedian from New York, the host of the Immigrant Jam Comedy Show, and is also an actress and voice actor (best known for being the voice of Mercy from Overwatch).

Seann Walsh is a comedian and has appeared on the UK’s most loved comedy shows.

Easter Sunday Service

Sunday 4 April, 10:30 AM – 12:00 AM

If you aren’t able to go to Church in person this Sunday, then you can still attend this service by the local 242 Church. This way you will still be able to celebrate this holy holiday with others with singing and communion, even if you are not able to attend a Church itself.

In conversation with Sir David Attenborough

Sunday 4 April, 2 PM – 3 PM

If you’d prefer to spend some time on Easter in a more secular way, then this Q&A with the nation’s most loved broadcaster, naturalist and presenter. Sir David Attenborough will be discussing with Liz Bonnin, a wildlife and natural history presenter, about his hopes for the future of the planet. Climate change and environmental issues are such a huge part of modern life so this event from Earth Optimism should be informative and useful for you.
