The pioneering West Hull Health Hub, hailed as a beacon of future primary care services, has been recognised at the Insider Media Yorkshire Property Industry Awards.
The £8million state-of-the-art health hub has seen thousands of Modality Partnership (Hull) patients pass through its doors since it opened in November 2021. It has integrated crucial services under one roof within the community with the aim of limiting the need for hospital admission or care.
Now, the West Hull Health Hub is being celebrated at the most respected property awards in Yorkshire after it won the Public-Private Collaboration of the Year, which recognises the best coordinated effort between the public and private sector partners.
The West Hull Health Hub is the first new primary care health centre in the country to be delivered under a new third-party developer model by Citycare and investor and public sector partner, Community Health Partnerships. The project was completed on behalf of the NHS in conjunction with NHS Hull Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).
The judges said that the health hub “demonstrated a massive community benefit”, as it is already transforming patient care in a historically under-served part of the city.
Tim Wigglesworth, CEO of Citycare said: “Citycare is a public private partnership between CHP and private sector investors Sewell Investments, which has previously developed 13 health centres successfully transforming Hull’s healthcare estate and improving access and facilities for tens of thousands of patients across the city.
“Whilst I’ve always believed in the real benefits that the West Hull Health Hub project brings to the community and the people working hard to provide health and care services to them, it’s always lovely to have that endorsed by others at awards such as this.
“As always, these things are a team effort and the award specifically acknowledged just how well both public and private partners came together to realise the future vision for health estates transformations across the city, and beyond.”
The use of a pre-procured supply chain also enabled the project to progress to plan and adapt to a changing environment, and challenging backdrop of a global pandemic. Built to BREEAM Excellent standards with significant multi agency engagement in the design and delivery, the project was successfully delivered by Sewell Construction.
Sewell Construction also achieved significant social benefit during the construction phase including;
- 84% local labour spend, will all site staff from a HU postcode
- £3.57 social return on investment for every £1 spent
- Engagement with local schools, 8 apprentices on site and work placements for young people with additional needs and autism
- Health, wellbeing, and mental health support for the site team including sub-contractors and local residents with the moto ‘the journey starts now’ which aimed to bring health benefits from the outset of the project, and not just once building works were completed
- A Considerate Constructors score of 43
- Over 97% of waste diverted from landfill
