This review is taken from my foodie Insta @hulleatswithpetgoth – give me a follow 😊

Roots is Hull’s only Caribbean restaurant; recently visited by Sean Paul when he performed at the Bonus Arena. Roots is a long standing resident of Hull’s student quarter & I have been for both food and drinks many times over the years.
My friend had never eaten at Roots before & it had been a few years since I last ate there. We were drawn in by the weekday offers they currently have on, including 241 cocktails all day Tues, 50% off all food on a Wed & the bargain we went for: 2 meals and 2 cocktails for £25 on a Thurs.
I love the decor in Roots, stereotypically Jamaican themed & coloured red, green and yellow. It’s quirky, funky and fun with a great atmosphere. Roots has arguably the best cocktails down the avenues and you can’t have a night out down Newland without one of their flamin’ zombies! Even though we weren’t drinking that night (school nights…pfft!🙄) they brewed us up some delicious mocktails instead.
My friend opted for the jerk belly pork & I got the Santiago chicken – a self proclaimed firm Roots favourite. My favourite has to be the jerk shrimp which I was so close to getting again & regretted not doing so. We both agreed that although the meals we picked were ‘nice’ that was about it. I was a bit disappointed that my friend’s first experience was underwhelming! The belly pork was quite bland & the chicken was very basic. I felt I could have made something similar very easily at home. Unfortunately, I think we just didn’t pick well on this occasion. Regardless, I still rate Roots as the best place for cocktails down Newland & would definitely go back for drinks. As for the food, good for a cheap eat but don’t expect anything mind-blowing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For this reason, I am giving Roots 2 separate ratings: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
    Food: 3/5
    Drinks: 4/5
