Blues and roots fans may have had a 12 month wait but they can rest easy as guitar virtuoso Michael Messer is bringing his ever popular Acoustic Blues & Roots Weekend back to PAC this November.

After having to postpone last year’s weekend due to the pandemic the dates are now fixed for this year’s event, which routinely attracts guitarists and tutors from across the UK and beyond.

On Friday 19, Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 November Michael and legendary guitarist Robbie McIntosh will lead a weekend of guitar and slide-guitar tuition plus jam sessions, student performances, and a very special Saturday night concert.

Michael said: “I cannot wait to return to PAC for our next Acoustic Blues & Roots Weekend. I really missed it last year as it is always such a fantastic, thoroughly enjoyable event so I am delighted to be coming back.

“Robbie is such an incredible talent to work with so I know attendees are in for a real treat – having the opportunity to hang out with and learn from someone who has such impressive music credentials and so much experience.

“We are very much looking forward to meeting our 2021 cohort and having a brilliant weekend!”

The weekend is for anyone interested in playing acoustic guitar and slide guitar in a blues and roots style. All levels are welcome. Acoustic instruments only.

Attendees get the privilege of being taught by two of the finest guitarists in the UK today.

Robbie, who will be teaching guitar and slide guitar, is one of the finest guitarists of his, or any generation and has legendary status among his fellow musicians. Chris Rea said: “There’s Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and Robbie McIntosh”.

Robbie has worked with the likes of Sir Paul McCartney, The Pretenders, Sir Tom Jones, John Mayer, Norah Jones, Paul Carrack and has played many of the world’s top festivals and venues, as well as making numerous TV and radio appearances.

As a long-term member of The Pretenders, Robbie played at Live Aid in 1985 and on their hit record, Don’t Get Me Wrong.

He then spent four years touring and recording in Paul McCartney’s band. In 2004 Robbie toured for a year with Norah Jones and then from 2006 to 2010 he toured with John Mayer, providing both rhythm and lead guitar, Dobro, and mandolin.

More recently, he was featured on the movie soundtrack “Rocketman” and in March 2020 played at the O2 Music for the Marsden charity concert with Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, Sir Tom Jones, Yusuf/Cat Stevens, Paul Young and many others.

Robbie also takes his own special blend of music on the road with The Robbie McIntosh Band and has just released a new album “Seaworld”.

Michael, who will be teaching slide guitar and lap steel guitar, has earned a well-known reputation as a virtuoso slide guitarist, singer, and blues innovator.

Throughout his 40-year career, Michael’s music has remained individual and contemporary. His stunning slide guitar playing and superb vocals ooze authenticity and integrity, and his use of turntables in the Second Mind Band marked him as one of the trailblazers of the 21st century blues sound.

Johnny Cash wrote the liner notes for Michael’s 1993 collaboration album with Terry Clarke and Jesse Taylor, “Rhythm Oil”.

Michael’s “King Guitar” album reached number one in the US Living Blues chart, and “Second Mind” won Best International Guitar Album of the Year

His current band, Michael Messer’s Mitra, is once again breaking new ground playing an exhilarating fusion of rural blues & Hindustani classical music. Their highly acclaimed album, “Call of the Blues” was iTunes #1 blues album and World Music Network #1 album.

To date, Michael has released ten albums, toured worldwide, recorded numerous live radio/TV sessions and appeared in his own ‘Blues’ episode of BBC show, Zingzillas.

In addition, and by request, Robbie & Michael will hold a class together on the subject of performance and playing in a duo.

A highlight of the weekend is the Acoustic Blues House Party on the Saturday night featuring Robbie McIntosh & Michael Messer plus guests.

PAC Director Janet Farmer said: “It is always such a pleasure to welcome Michael and his Acoustic Blues and Roots weekend to PAC.

“It is always such a popular, friendly and fun weekend will be fantastic to have the venue abuzz with the sound of acoustic blues and roots music once again.”

Tickets are £165.00 (Weekend), £35.00 (Friday only), £85 (Saturday only including concert) & £12 (Saturday concert only).
