Resurfacing work begins on Argyle Street and Stanley Street

Work to improve Argyle Street and Stanley Street is now underway.

The resurfacing, which started last night (Monday 10 July), is needed due to the deterioration of the carriageway.

This work will provide a safe and skid-resistant surface for road users and is estimated to take around one week to complete.

Speaking at the Argyle Street site, Councillor Mark Ieronimo, Portfolio Holder for Transportation, Roads, and Highways at Hull City Council, said: “We are here on Argyle Street tonight (July 10) for the first night of resurfacing.

“This road suffered from huge potholes, and they have been filled-in and patched up. This is going to be a much smoother a ride.

“It’s going to benefit all our road users, cyclists, motorists alike – It is good news.

“We tried to make sure that these works are taking place overnight, so we can minimise disruption for residents and businesses.

“We know that this is a busy road, so we are undertaking this at night-time. Hopefully, people benefit from that by not noticing the disruption during the day.”

Road closures are in place overnight between 8:30pm and 6:30am, with diversions via Anlaby Road, Park Street and Londesborough Street.

The resurfacing programme is funded by Hull City Council’s Capital Programme and carried out by CR Reynolds Ltd.
