If you’re looking for something fantastical and dark, then Snowpiercer is for you. Released on the 25th of May, The sci-fi thriller everyone is talking about, Snowpiercer is well worth a watch.
The incredible show is inspired by the 2013 movie of the same name by the Oscar-winning director Bong Joon-ho, who directed Parasite in 2019, and a 1982 French graphic novel Le Transperceneige. Set in a dystopian future on a frozen Earth, rendered near lifeless by failed efforts to reverse global warming, Snowpiercer follows the few remaining humans as they circle the globe on a giant armoured train.
The passengers are divided by carriage into different classes who receive vastly different treatment. The individuals in the rear carriage, the ‘Tailers’ live in poor conditions and are plotting a revolt. Snowpiercer explores inequality, survival and issues of social justice.
Daveed Diggs stars as Andre Layton, a Tailer and former homicide cop who is investigating a murder in the third class while Jennifer Connelly stars as Melanie Cavill, a first-class passenger acting as the ‘voice of the train’. At the moment, you can watch the first two episodes. An exciting new episode will be released every week for the next two months.
