A busy roundabout in Hull will undergo much-needed repairs next month.

The road surface on the roundabout that links Stoneferry Road, Mount Pleasant and Cleveland Street is in poor condition, and will be resurfaced.

The improvement works will begin on Monday April 10 and are expected to take a week to complete. The work will take place overnight to minimise disruption.

To allow the work to be carried out, the roundabout will be closed to traffic from 6.30pm to 6am, Monday to Sunday. It will remain open at all other times, with a 20mph speed restriction in place.

Diversion routes, which will be clearly signed, are as follows:

  • Southbound traffic: via Chamberlain Road, James Reckitt Avenue, Mount Pleasant and Chapman Street.
  • Northbound traffic: via Cleveland Street and Dalton Street.

High-sided vehicles should continue to use the existing diversion route, following the A1033 Northbound (Stoneferry Road / Holwell Road).

Resurfacing is the most cost-effective and least disruptive way to improve the road, and will involve removing the existing surface layer and inspecting the layer below, known as the binder course. If the binder course is found to be in poor condition, it will be replaced before the road is resurfaced.

A Hull City Council spokesperson said: “We know this roundabout is in very poor condition and we’re happy to now be in position to carry out these repairs, which will guarantee a much smoother ride for all road users in future.”

Tarmac Ltd is carrying out the work on behalf of Hull City Council.
