The best events around Hull & East Yorkshire this week | 1 Feb – 7 Feb 2023

As we leave January behind, we draw ever closer to the end of the cold days and freezing nights – and with the fantastic selection of events in Hull to pass the time, the days are sure to fly by.

This week we’ve got exhibitions such as L’Hiver 2023 at Studio Eleven, music gigs like the Ultimate 90s Party at the Beverley Memorial Hall, and top-notch comedy from the likes of Lloyd Griffith – and more.

And don’t forget, even if nothing catches your eye – there’s tons more over in our events listings!

L’Hiver 2023

Now – Sunday 12 Mar @ Studio Eleven

L’Hiver 2023, the first exhibition of 2023 at Studio Eleven, combines environmental themes and narrative with paint, print, and ceramics.

The exhibition collectively investigates the artists’ response to the environment and the issues of climate change. It brings together emerging and established artists, some of which have an international practice and have work in important collections worldwide.

Lloyd Griffith: One Tonne of Fun

Wednesday 1 Feb – Thursday 2 Feb @ Hull Truck Theatre

After Lloyd’s last tour was interrupted by ‘you know what’ and ended up lasting 8 years or so, he’s BACK with a brand-new, fresh stand-up show for 2023. This is his biggest tour to date, and he is pumped / really needs you to come.

Since school Lloyd has always been a show-off, doing anything he can to make people laugh, and 20-odd years later, nothing’s changed. There’ll be his unique bag of stand-up, dubious impressions, and obviously a sprinkling of his (incredible) singing. Lloyd Griffith is: One Tonne of Fun.

Halle Orchestra

Thursday 2 Feb @ Hull City Hall

The Hallé Orchestra returns to Hull with an evening of Romantic music, opening with a colourful symphonic poem which was inspired by the classical Greek story of the daughters of Aeolus, keeper of the winds. Composed alongside his operatic masterpiece Tristan and Isolde, Wagner’s passionate Wesendonck Lieder is a collection of five love songs, performed here by Jennifer Johnston.

Tchaikovsky’s mighty Sixth Symphony was his final symphonic manuscript. It encapsulates the composer’s emotional power and was a work Tchaikovsky himself regarded as the best thing he had ever composed.
