Mumsy

Thursday 2 Mar @ Hull Truck Theatre

Sophie is going to be a third-generation single Mum and she’s terrified. How will she afford to feed them both? Can she hold on to her job? What if she’s a crap Mum? Surely she can count on her own Mum and Nan to help…

Wrong! Rachel’s got used to having a life of her own and doesn’t fancy giving up pole class and Tinder to go back to changing nappies and no sleep. Having Sophie back home is really cramping her style. Meanwhile, after getting scouted to be an Annie Lennox impersonator on the P&O Ferries, her Nan’s having a three-quarter life crisis of her own.

In a one-bed flat in Gyspyville, Hull, three women battle through the friendship, drama and love of mother-daughter relationships.

The Island

Saturday 4 Mar @ Hull Truck Theatre

John and Winston are sharing a cell. They survive through a mixture of solidarity, bickering, laughter and defiance. They are preparing a production of Antigone for the other prisoners, but Winston has trouble remembering the lines and isn’t sure he wants to play Antigone. The two men’s sense of brotherhood has kept them going for years, then John hears that he’s going to be released…

The Island is one of the most famous plays of the second half of the 20th Century and has been seen all over the world. A rich, boisterous, funny, moving piece of theatre, it is a hymn to the human spirit and a cry for freedom everywhere.

We are delighted to be hosting a gig by Blair Dunlop at St Nicholas’, Beverley. As ever, there will be a warm welcome and St Nick’s famous reasonably-priced bar.

Blair Dunlop, award-winning British singer-songwriter and guitarist, has now released 5 albums 2 eps and toured the globe. Though a celebrated singer and guitarist, what sets Blair apart from his peers is the lyrical and musical maturity with which he writes.

His third album ‘Gilded’ was released in May 2016 on his own label – Gilded Wings – and was widely acclaimed, gaining BBC Radio 2 Playlist status for the two single releases (‘The Egoist’ and ‘356’). Prior to this came 2014’s ‘House of Jacks’ and 2012 debut ‘Blight & Blossom’ (the quality of which contributed to his winning the BBC Radio 2 Horizon Award).

Blair has now cemented his place as one of Britain’s most exciting songwriters and performers. 2018 Blair saw the release of his 4th album ‘Notes From An Island’ on his own label to rave reviews.

Gary Meikle

Saturday 4 Mar @ Hull City Hall

‘Gary is this, Gary is that, you can expect this from Gary’ well I’m writing this myself so, this will be MY 3rd show, or 2.5 as I’m calling it. I’ve had several top professionals and industry people tell me over the years that I shouldn’t swear as much on stage, that I shouldn’t be as crude or as edgy as I am but guess what, they likely don’t know that as a kid growing up in the care system I was told that I’d be either dead or in jail by the time I was 30 so I tend not to listen to others and do things my way, its gotten me this far after all.

So, this show will be a continued celebration of me being me which in the current climate of cancel culture we find ourselves in could be seen as risky…
