Starting on Saturday 14 Jan @ 87 Gallery

Working Class Creatives Database presents it’s a joy to be here at 87 Gallery!

It’s a joy to be here brings together six working-class artists from around the UK. Collectively, the artists draw on the history and traditional processes of craft whilst conceptually exploring the nuance of personal narrative. Many of the artists do this through the use of materials that are immediately available, reused or altered, together challenging stereotypes around gender, class and DIY approaches.

By celebrating methods often associated with the working class, such as textiles and metalwork, the work provokes questions about the hierarchies within artistic practice.

Tuesday 17 Jan @ Hull New Theatre

Every toy has a story, especially in this charming comedy of errors, a witty combination of antics and abracadabra, set in a doll maker’s workshop.

This light-hearted tale of mistaken identity and confused lovers follows mischievous Swanilda, her impetuous suitor Franz and the eccentric toymaker Dr. Coppelius as they are brought to life by sparkling choreography and the animated score of Delibes. Coppélia is perfect for first-time ballet goers, families, and everyone in between!
