It’s an exciting week in Hull as we prepare for The Awakening, and with Mother’s day around the corner too, we’ve got some great events and opportunities lined up.

In addition, we’ve got our usual lineup of music, theatre and more, featuring big exhibitions like Ferens’ Tutankhamun: 100 Years of Discovery, shows like Sara Pascoe: Success Story, and music events at The Welly, Service Station, and more!


The Awakening 2023

Friday 17 – Sunday 19 March @ Queens Gardens

The Awakening is set to return to Hull City Centre this weekend, following its successful launch year in 2022. The event will be revisiting Hull – celebrating the city’s maritime identity, heritage, folklore, and mythology, and marking the change of seasons from winter to spring. Visitors can explore the city centre’s history-rich streets, from Queens Gardens to Zebedee’s Yard, and experience magical and entertaining installation experiences as the sun sets into the evening.

Thursday Night Live feat Atom Of Lunar, The Exceptional Mr Hyde, My Fake Empire

Thursday 16 Mar @ Service Station

Hull promoters, Music HQ, are taking over the Service Station this Thursday with Atom Of Lunar, The Exceptional Mr Hyde, My Fake Empire!

It’s a bit more gothic/alternative rock this time around compared to previous months. Atom Of Lunar are playing at the bar for the very first time.

A British Museum Touring Exhibition – Egyptian hieroglyphs: Unlock the mystery

Friday 17 Mar @ Ferens Art Gallery

Unlock the mystery of Egyptian hieroglyphs and discover all about the ancient world and the origins of civilization. The fascinating story of how the Egyptian hieroglyphs were decoded will be celebrated with the Ferens Art Gallery being the first stop on a national tour, following the major exhibition at the British Museum marking the centenary of the decipherment of hieroglyphs.

Perfect for all ages, visitors will be introduced to great pioneers like Jean-Francois Champollion whose ground-breaking work on deciphering the ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs, enriched our knowledge of human history by 3,000 years.

Tutankhamun: 100 Years of Discovery

Friday 17 Mar @ Ferens Art Gallery

100 years after archaeologist Howard Carter and his patron, Lord Carnarvon, caught their first glimpse of the fabulous golden treasures of a then little-known Egyptian Pharoah called Tutankhamun visitors are invited to unearth the thrilling stories, myths and controversies surrounding the treasures of Tutankhamun in an exciting exhibition.

Using Hull Museums’ collection of exquisitely crafted replicas of treasures found in Tutankhamun’s tomb, handmade by sculptor William Aumonier Junior and his team of skilled artisans for the British Empire Exhibition at Wembley in 1924 and 1925, visitors will be able to follow in the footsteps of those Wembley visitors from 100 years ago when the momentous discovery caused a sensation and ‘Tutmania’ swept the world.

Sara Pascoe: Success Story

The star of BBC2 stand-up comedy special Sara Pascoe: LadsLadsLads is back with a brand-new stand-up show which is coming to Hull City Hall this Friday night. Sara Pascoe is a highly acclaimed comedian, writer, and actor. She wrote and starred in her recent BBC2 sitcom Out Of Her Mind, and is the celebrated host of BBC2’s The Great British Sewing Bee, BBC’s Last Woman On Earth, Dave’s Comedians Giving Lectures and Comedy Central’s Guessable.

Wasted Youth – Still Wandering Tour + Loudhailer Electric Company

Saturday 18 Mar @ O’Rileys

Wasted Youth was an English post-punk band from London, performing between 1979 and 1982, which blended post-punk/pre-Goth with dark acoustic strains of the sort associated with Nick Drake and Syd Barrett.

They’re back on tour and coming to Hull’s O’Rileys music venue this weekend, and being supported by Loudhailer Electric Company.

Remix presents Cream

Saturday 18 Mar @ Bridlington Spa

After a spellbinding first event last Summer, Bridlington Spa are once again hosting REMIX in conjunction with the most iconic dance brand in the world, CREAM!

There will be a huge stage production alongside the biggest lineup to date, and what could be bigger than a special DJ set from the chart-topping and generation-defining, Faithless?

You can also expect a special stage appearance by the hottest thing in Ibiza, Lovely Laura & Ben Santiago!
