As King Charles III takes to the throne, preparations are underway to welcome a different type of monarch to Hull New Theatre, when the sovereign of Siam once again pays a Royal visit to Hull, as Rodgers and Hammerstein’s smash-hit musical The King and I returns next year.
This sumptuous show is just one of four new productions set to light up the stages of Hull Theatres in 2023.
Next spring audiences at Hull New Theatre will be transferred to the Kingdom of Thailand when the critically acclaimed Broadway show The King and I returns to the stage from 2 – 6 May 2023.
This unmissable, majestic production features one of the finest scores ever written, with classics including: Whistle a Happy Tune, Getting to Know You and Shall We Dance, all performed by a company of more than 50 world-class artistes, and a full orchestra.
Over at Hull City Hall, tributes to some of the finest voices in pop and rock ‘n’ roll will be honoured in two extraordinary performances.
Barry Steele and Friends: The Roy Orbison Story charts the career of the ‘Big O’ from the early years of Blue Bayou, It’s Over, and, Running Scared to the supergroup the Traveling Wilburys on 11 March 2023. The concert will also feature Spencer Jordan’s tribute to Buddy Holly.
And, back by popular demand, the award-winning production Whitney – Queen of the Night returns on 28 September 2023 with a stunning celebration of the music and life of one of the greatest singers of our time.
Featuring all the hits including, I Wanna Dance With Somebody, One Moment In Time, I’m Every Woman, My Love is Your Love, So Emotional Baby, Run to You, Saving All My Love, and I will Always Love You.
Another firm favourite making a welcome return is the ever-popular Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club with its monthly showcase of new comedians with top-class jokers from 13 January through to June 2023.
