Banarasi, a new Indian restaurant that opened on Princes Avenue in Hull in June 2022, offers an authentic taste of Indian cuisine that is unique to the city. Formerly known as Bengal Lounge, the new restaurant distinguishes itself from other Indian-style restaurants in Hull by serving up real Indian dishes alongside more traditional British-Indian dishes that most people are familiar with.

Banarasi’s menu is extensive, offering a wide range of dishes that allow diners to try new flavours and dishes that they wouldn’t normally find in other Indian-style restaurants in the city. One of the highlights of their menu is the “All You Can Eat” option, available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, for just £20.95 for adults, £15.95 for children aged 5 – 9, and free for children aged 4 and under.

During our visit to Banarasi, we were impressed by the quality of the food. The spices were expertly balanced, and the flavours were authentic and delicious. The owners of the restaurant, who hail from India and Bangladesh, wanted to bring a fresh and authentic taste of Indian cuisine to Hull, and they have certainly succeeded in doing so. Their commitment to providing an authentic experience is evident in every aspect of the restaurant, from the decor to the food.

The menu at Banarasi offers a range of dishes, including street food favourites and more traditional curries. We particularly enjoyed the Chicken 65, which was spicy and full of flavour, and the Dal Dum handi, which had a creamy and delicate sauce. The naan bread was fresh, crispy and fluffy, and the rice was perfectly cooked.

Banarasi’s owners describe their restaurant as a “Brand new Indian Street Food & Grill” and “a taste of India and the subcontinent.” They take great pride in introducing the true taste of Indian cuisine to the city and providing a diverse and authentic dining experience for their customers. Street food in India is popularly known as ‘nukkadwala’ (corner food), and while some vendors streamline the recipe of popular dishes to sell on the street, several restaurants have taken their inspiration from the street food of India.

Overall, Banarasi is a fantastic addition to Hull’s dining scene. The restaurant offers something unique and exciting, and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for a delicious and authentic Indian dining experience. With their excellent food, friendly service, and reasonable prices, we are already looking forward to our next visit.
