This year, 130 institutions were ranked in the overall table with Hull University now ranking 58th (from 70th last year) meaning the University has returned to the top half.

The University is also the greatest riser in the Yorkshire and Humber region, now ranking fifth, leapfrogging Huddersfield.

Professor Susan Lea, Vice-Chancellor at the University of Hull, said: “This is yet another significant success for the University and reflects the incredible hard work and dedication of our wonderful staff and students.

“These rankings continue the upward trajectory of the University and come off the back of a strong performance in last month’s Research Excellence Framework, which saw the university rise 17 places.

“I am tremendously proud of everything that has been achieved over the past three years, which includes a rise of 53 places in the Guardian University Guide and 51 places in the Times Good University Guide. These latest rankings really cement what has been a step change in progress here at Hull and we look forward to continuing on this pathway.”

Every year the Complete University Guide releases UK university and subject league tables to support prospective students in making informed decisions about their future.

The top seven universities remain the same this year with Oxford taking top spot ahead of Cambridge.
