Hull’s Play Day event has expanded to three events for 2021, with the first taking place tomorrow (28 July) at Alderman Kneeshaw playing fields.

National Play Day is one of the biggest and most popular family events in Hull and attracts thousands each year.

After a disappointing 2020 which meant the cancellation of the event, Play Day will this year be held across three dates and locations with free craft activities, bike try outs, donkey rides, face painting, street theatre and much more for all the family.

Following Alderman Kneeshaw, the event will visit Queens Gardens on Wednesday 4 August and Pearson Park on Wednesday 25 August from 11am to 3pm.

Pauline Turner, Director for Children and Family Services, said: “This year we wanted to bring Play Day to communities in the east and west of the city as well as holding the annual city centre event, making it accessible to as many families as possible.

“The event is not only great fun, but promotes the benefits and positive impact that playing has on children’s mental and physical health as well as being a great day out. All attractions are free of charge and offer a chance to enjoy a day out on your doorstep with endless opportunities to build, make, create, balance, bounce, run, jump and play.”

Councillor Shane McMurray, Portfolio Holder for Children’s Services, said: “During the pandemic we’ve seen parents become teachers and children not able to see friends for a long period of time.

“It’s crucial now that children have as much opportunity to not only to have fun, but to socialise with other kids and for their parents to enjoy seeing their children play.”

Play Days are funded by Hull City Council and the Department of Education and is part of the Healthy Holidays Scheme.

The Play Days run take place 11am to 3pm at each venue, with no booking or tickets required.
