Top Events around Hull & East Yorkshire this week – 15 March 2022

There’s another amazing week of events taking place across Hull & East Yorkshire. The Awakening in Hull’s city centre is the hit event this weekend, with huge performances from The Wanted at Bonus Arena and Jake Bugg at Hull City Hall happening in the week. Things get creepy at Hull New Theatre with The Addams Family taking residency this week. Check out the full list below…

The Awakening

Friday 18th & Saturday 19th March @ Hull City Centre

Freedom Festival, with support from Welcome Back funding, the Arts Council and the Global Streets network, are delighted to be working in partnership with Hull City Council to bring a new event to Hull City Centre this weekend.
It celebrates the movement from Winter to Spring, as well as our great city’s maritime identity, heritage, folklore and mythology, and our relationship to the environment. Head into the City Centre, on the streets and in its venues, to experience a magical and entertaining experience as you explore the City Centre and Old Town into the evening.

The Wanted

Wednesday 16 March @ Bonus Arena

The wanted are set to reunite for the first time in seven years for a special charity concert, and will also be releasing a greatest hits album including new music. They are visiting the Bonus Arena for a full UK tour, with doors opening at 6pm on Wednesday and their show beginning at 9:10pm, after performances by Harper, DJ Rozelle, and HRVY.

The Addams Family

Tuesday 15 March @ Hull New Theatre

Featuring a live orchestra and extraordinary original score, the smash hit Broadway musical comedy The Addams Family will be performing in Hull New Theatre on Tuesday. The event will be running nightly until the 19th at 7.30pm, 2.30pm on Thursday & Saturday, and comes from the writers of multi award-winning hit musical Jersey Boys. Joanne Clifton (Strictly Come Dancing and The Rocky Horror Show) will be starring as Morticia, with music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa.

Jake Bugg

Thursday 17th March @ Hull City Hall

Jake Bugg will be coming to Hull City Hall on Thursday as part of a tour to celebrate the release of his euphoric single ‘All I Need’, and the release of his fifth album ‘Saturday Night, Sunday Morning’. The 27-years-old has four albums and numerous hit singles to his name and a seasoned knowledge beyond his young years, which he couples with a refreshing wry sense of humour. His laid-back gritty swagger and striking yet nonchalant image have seen him fuse his music with style.

Tony Hadley – 40th Anniversary Tour

Friday 18th March @ Hull City Hall

Visiting Hull as part of a huge UK tour, Tony Hadley will be performing at Hull City Hall, in an event celebrating a remarkable 40 years in music. Tony will perform tracks from across his career both as the voice of Spandau Ballet, and as a solo artist, in a big celebration of one of the biggest voices in pop. From his beginnings at the forefront of the New Romantic movement, Tony has earned himself the accolade of being one of pop’s greatest vocalists.

Shrek The Musical

Tuesday 22 March @ Hull New Theatre

After COVID cancelled 2020’s rescue mission, Hessle Theatre Company returns on Tuesday with a new quest in Shrek the Musical, at the Hull New Theatre. Based on the Oscar-winning film, and with a 13-piece orchestra, 21 foot love-struck dragon and 140 spectacular costumes, this all-singing, all-dancing hit show combines ogre-sized portions of hilarity and spectacle in the perfect must-see musical for the whole family.

LOL Comedy Club

Friday 18th March @ Hull City Hall: Mortimer Suite

A regular event in Hull, the LOL Comedy Club brings you fantastic comedians off the telly from such shows as BBC2’s Mock The Week, Channel 4’s 8 Out of 10 Cats, BBC1’s Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, Have I Got News For You, QI, BBC3s Russell Howard’s Good News, and many more. The cream of the UK and International comedy circuit all combine to make a laugh packed night out, with ever changing line ups at each night. Each show has four top professional comics including the MC.

Hull Trinity House Tours

Monday 14th March – Monday 20th June @ Trinity House

Long regarded as one of Hull’s best kept secrets, Hull Trinity House is opening its doors to the public from Monday 14th March onwards. Tours will be conducted in up to groups of 3 by a dedicated team of Master Mariners & history volunteers, and will last around two hours.

The Alarm at Asylum

Sunday 20th March @ Asylum

Welsh rock legends The Alarm are making a stop at Hull’s very own Asylum on Sunday, as part of their UK tour. The Alarm are a Welsh rock band that formed in 1981, from Rhyl, Wales. Initially formed as a punk band named The Toilets in 1977, under lead vocalist Mike Peters, the band soon embraced arena rock, and included marked influences from Welsh language and culture. By opening for acts such as U2 and Bob Dylan, they became a popular new wave pop band of the 1980s.

80’s Vice City: Abba Night

Friday 18th March @ Social

Vice City is a DJ based club night hosted at Social, paying homage to the greats from the 70s and 80s. At around midnight, when everyone has just about arrived, nothing but the artist that the night is dedicated to will be blasted out for 90 mins. All the songs you go to hear, on a massive club sound system! Friday will be dedicated to Abba, with Dancing Queen and Buff Bjorn attire encouraged!
