The Best Events Around Hull & East Yorkshire This Week | 6 – 12 July 2022

We’ve got some great offerings for you this week in Hull, especially for you movie enjoyers out there.

It’s your last chance this week to see Cameron Mackintosh’s acclaimed production of Les Misérables, with the last showing on Saturday – don’t miss it!

Cult cinema events are being held at the Wrecking Ball Arts Centre and Social this week as always, and the SAFAR Film Festival is showing 3 films at VUE across the week as well.

We also have some good musical events this week with Mania – The ABBA Tribute, Walk Right Back, and Adam Ant’s show.

Finally, we have events such as the Vista Festival 2022 & Filament Theatre: Earth Makes No Sound to enjoy – So get out there and enjoy Hull!

Les Miserables

Daily until Sat 9 July 2022 @ Hull New Theatre

Nearly a decade after the last sell-out UK tour, Cameron Mackintosh’s acclaimed production of Boublil and Schönberg’s musical Les Miserables takes to the road once more. This brilliant new staging has taken the world by storm and has been hailed “Les Mis for the 21st Century”.

With scenery inspired by the paintings of Victor Hugo, the magnificent score of Les Miserables includes the songs; ‘I Dreamed a Dream’, ‘On My Own’, ‘Bring Him Home’, ‘One Day More’, ‘Master Of The House’ and many more.

SAFAR Film Festival At HIC

Wed 6 July & Tue 12 July & Thu 14 July 2022 @ Vue Cinema

Hull Independent Cinema is delighted to be one of eight UK hosts for this year’s SAFAR Film Festival, organised by the Arab British Centre. Over two weeks at the start of July we will be screening three films from the festival programme, showcasing the very best of modern filmmaking from the Arab world. All screenings take place at 7.30pm at Vue Cinema Hull Princes Quay.

Wrecking Ball Film Club: The Gift

Head down to Wrecking Ball on Whitefriargate for their latest film club showing.

A married couple, Simon and Robyn, run into Gordo, an old classmate. Things take a turn when Gordo begins to drop in unannounced at their house and inundates them with mysterious gifts.

Mania – The Abba Tribute

Direct from London’s West End, MANIA is accepted as the world’s number one ABBA tribute show. A special concert which celebrates the music of ABBA in a respectful and enjoyable way, this production revives memories of when ABBA ruled the airwaves.

Lol Comedy Club

Fri 8 July 2022 @ Hull City Hall: Mortimer Suite

Comedians off the telly from such shows as BBC 2’s Mock The Week, Channel 4’s 8 Out of 10 Cats, BBC 1’s Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow etc, plus the best of the rest! We’re the people who booked Jason Manford, John Bishop and Sarah Millican before they hit the big time. So come and see more brilliant comedians!

Each show will have 4 comics including MC Damion Larkin, ‘One of the country’s top new comedians’ – BBC. Line up TBC.

Walk Right Back

After phenomenal sell-out tours, Walk Right Back is…BACK! From the Producers of ‘That’ll Be the Day’, the show tells the story of the most successful duo of all time – The Everly Brothers.

Featuring hits such as ‘Bye Bye Love’, ‘All I Have To Do Is Dream’ and ‘Cathy’s Clown’, this unique concert-based musical entwines the wonderful, sad yet glorious story of The Everly Brothers around those trademark “harmonies from heaven”.

Vista Festival 2022- Princes Avenue

On Saturday 9th July Hull’s biggest free street festival returns to Prince’s Avenue.

Thousands will be entertained by this year’s headliners Pearl’s Cab Ride, fun fair, art sales, street entertainment, dancing, art installations and not forgetting food from 25 different food establishments.

The festival is organised by the Princes Avenue Community and Traders (PACT) which is a voluntary group set up to promote the local community and businesses. The festival is a celebration of the culture of HU5.

Cult Cinema Sunday: Predator

Pop icon Adam Ant returns to Hull with a show that promises to get everyone on their feet. The King of the Wild Frontier will be performing his classic chart-topping singles and personal favourites including ‘Prince Charming’, ‘Stand And Deliver’ and ‘Goody Two Shoes’.

Filament Theatre: Earth Makes No Sound

Tue 12 July 2022 @ Hull Truck Theatre

Earth Makes No Sound is an extraordinary large-scale collaborative choral work inspired by the elements and the changes that are happening to our planet and how we look after it.

Originally developed for Chorus Festival at Southbank Centre, Earth Makes No Sound explores the possibilities of dynamic choral singing and the relationship between voice, movement, harmony, body percussion and improvisation.
