The best events around Hull & East Yorkshire this week | 24 – 30 August 2022

Cottingham Folk Festival AND Freedom Festival start this Thursday and Friday respectively, and we’re excited – are you? We’ve brought you another summary of some of our favourite upcoming events to occupy you until then, and some during if you’d prefer them! We have musical events such as R•MCL & Guy Gardner at the deep and Bring The Riff, days and nights out including Trinity Live and The Village’s Soundtrack of the Summer Party Night… and much more!

R•MCL and Guy Gardner live from The Deep

Wed 24 Aug 2022 @ The Deep

Following the success of the first-ever sunset live stream from The Deep’s nose cone in 2021, we are excited to present brand new live sets from artists R•MCL and Guy Gardner. This time the performance will be to a live audience!

Inspired by The Deep, both performances will take you on an immersive journey for the evening. Join us in the Endless Ocean to watch R.MCL perform live on the big screen from the nose cone with spectacular cinematic camera and drone shots.

Then sit back and enjoy the show with a live in-person performance from jazz pianist, composer and arranger Guy Gardner.

The weekly live music event gives many local bands and performers a platform.

Cottingham Folk Festival 2022

Backbone

Fri 26 Aug & Sat 27 Aug 2022 @ Hull New Theatre

Backbone tests the limits of strength: physical, emotional, individual and collective.

Staged with a deceptively DIY aesthetic and dispensing of trickery and distraction, this is a circus that goes straight for the jugular and leaves no viewer unmoved. Backbone is the culmination of all that’s gone before: a celebration of human connectedness and the meaning of strength, its athletic appeal running through with a conceptual brilliance that elevates it to a new level.

Hull Independent Cinema: All My Friends Hate Me

Tue 30 Aug 2022 @ Vue Cinema Hull

Hull Independent Cinema presents…ALL MY FRIENDS HATE ME
Dir Andrew Gaynord | 2021 | Uk | 94 mins | 15 | English language.

It’s Pete’s birthday and the old gang from college is throwing him a party out in the country. During what’s meant to be a joyful weekend reunion, Pete finds himself increasingly unnerved by his friends’ inside jokes and snarky comments.

As the atmosphere goes from awkward to terrifying to downright surreal, is Pete being paranoid or is he the butt of some elaborate joke? A satire on social mores that marries awkward comedy with the tension of a great horror movie.
