The Best Outdoor Dining Spots Around Hull

As lockdown restrictions start to wind down, it’s time to start looking forward to outdoor dining. And after the hint of summer weather last week, I for one am excited to get out there and eat some yummy local food in the sun.

From April 12th, Step 2 of the Government’s ‘roadmap out of lockdown’ begins which includes the opening of pubs and restaurants for outdoor service.

Hospitality venues will be allowed to serve people outdoors at Step 2 and there will be no need for customers to order a substantial meal with alcoholic drinks and no curfew, although customers must order, eat and drink while seated (‘table service’). Wider social contact rules will apply in all these settings to prevent indoor mixing between different households.

In this article, we’ll highlight some of our favourite local eateries across Hull & East Yorkshire that are reopening with outdoor dining service.

Solita

Freedom Quay, Wellington St W, Hull, HU1 2BD

Fresh to Hull but already an award winning bar & grill in Manchester, Solita’s menu is packed with creative and decadent burger creations, wings, starters and so much more.

Solita captures flavours and styles of New York and Italy in a unique way. Their wagyu beef burger list is massive and their vegan selections is fair so they’re onto a winner in my books.

Combine all this with a gorgeous marina view and you’ve got yourself a fantastic dining experience – especially when the sun is out.

Head of Steam

10 King St, Hull, HU1 2JJ

It feel like every week I’m writing about Head of Steam, but that’s for good reason. The bar/restaurant not only offers some of the tastiest food in the city, but also stocks a large range of craft beers, and reasonably priced cocktails.

Burgers, Pizzas, and Kebabs are the game at Head Of Steam and they are absolutely delicious. If you’re vegan or vegetarian then you’re well catered for with just under half of the options being meat-free! There’s also some ‘turbo sides’, desserts and non-turbo sides to sink your teeth into.

Located across from Hull Minster, Head of Steam is perfect for outdoor dining due to the stunning views and full visibility to the sun. This will be one to watch, especially over the summer.

Ambiente

5 Humber St, Hull, HU1 1TG

An elegant and classy restaurant with stunning views of Hull’s beautiful marina, Ambiente Tapas has an expansive menu of Mediterranean and European cuisine that is going to make those summer nights a continental dream.

Ambiente are opening from the 14th of April for outdoor dining and this is definitely one I’ll be checking out for myself. Expect a contemporary, vibrant and upbeat vibe, alongside some beautiful and authentic Mediterranean food.

The restaurant is highly rated, has excellent customer service, and won a Traveller’s Choice award on Tripadvisor.

Holiday Inn Hull Marina

Castle St, Hull, HU1 2BX

You can’t mention the marina without mentioning the Holiday Inn – which is reopening on the 12th of April!

They’ve got a super exciting menu which is nothing less than culinary perfection. They’ve collaborated with Twisted London, We’re The Future! and Hot Chick to bring you a dining experience like no other.

The Twisted London Burger Bar has four absolutely stacked burgers including ‘Mehico heat’ and ‘Mighty steakout’ – all of which come with a 6oz* sirloin and chuck beef patty.

Over at We’re The Future! you’ll find healthy and delicious burgers that are great for you and the planet. This 100% plant based menu includes the ‘Asian BBQ tempeh rib burger’ and the ‘Louisiana hot chick’n’ which all come with a vegan brioche bun with rosemary and thyme salted chunky chips. That’s enough to make any herbivore happy.

Hot Chick is bringing gourmet chicken dishes to the inn, packed full of succulent, sweet and spicy dishes inspired by Korean, Thai, and Mexican flavours.

Butler Whites

2-3 Humber Street, HU1 1TG, Kingston upon Hull

Casual, bistro-style dining is back on the menu from the 12th of April with Butler Whites reopening on the magical Humber Street.

Butler Whites has a lunch, evening and Sunday lunch menu, packed to the brim with bistro-delights including locally sourced belly pork and pan seared seabass.

Their drinks menu includes a wide selection of cocktails, wines, spirits and beers (including Belgium, American, Japanese, and British!).

The Whistling Goose

Oslo Rd, Sutton Fields, HU7 0YN, Sutton on Hull

If good, old fashioned pub grub is what you’re after on April 12th, then The Whistling Goose has got you covered.

They’ve recently reworked their beer garden to accommodate for outdoor dining and we think it looks fantastic!

The Whistling Goose has a pretty exciting menu with pub classics including a range of steaks, Sunday roasts, hand-battered fish & chips, and stake & ale pie.

They’ve also got some ‘#flamingchallenges’ including the ‘who dares wings challenge’ and the ‘rib-a-saurus challenge’ just in case eating a normal amount of food isn’t for you.

The Whistling Goose also has a pretty great vegan menu which offers cruelty-free versions of classic pub dishes; two thumbs up from me.

Firepit

Unit 3 – 4a Flemingate Shopping Centre, HU17 0PW, Beverley

Beverley’s number 1 Sports Bar and Smokehouse is back to business on April 12th. They’ll be serving up the very best smoked dishes straight from their open kitchen to the gorgeous Flemingate backdrop – lovely!

Their food menu is pretty stacked and their drinks menu is even more impressive. They’ve got wings, burgers, hot dogs, loaded fries, and Mexican food on the menu, as well as a couple of vegan options.

As well as that they’ve got absolutely loads of cocktails (some of which for under a fiver!) and all the gin you could ever ask for.

Pizza Baby

Unit 21, HU17 0PW, Beverley

Pizza is the name and the game over at Pizza Baby, and they are reopening from the 12th of April to serve up a slice of outdoor dining to Beverley.

As well as pizzas, they also serve pasta dishes and mouth watering burgers inspired by New York-Italian cooking. They also claim to have a new vegan menu but I can’t find it on their website.

Combine the stunning views of Beverley Minster and you’ve got yourself a part New York, part Italian, part East Yorkshire dining experience – gnarly.

Plus Pizza Baby has 22 flavours of Gelato Ice Cream and their famous Dirty Desserts just to really round it off.

Estabulo

1 Flemingate, HU17 0NP, Beverley

Estabulo is bringing their authentic taste of Brazil back to the vibrant Flemingate from 17th of May (a bit further away than April 12th but definitely worth the wait).

Serving up large skewers of prime cuts of meats, Estabulo celebrate centuries-old methods of cooking; The meat is cooked on open flames, to your liking, and brought right to your table-side.

Their menu explains and highlights where the cut of meat is from and includes beef, chicken, pork, and lamb.

They also have some veggie options but lets be honest, if you’re still reading you’re probably not a vegetarian.
