The University of Hull is one of the top universities in the North according to The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2022.

Once again named in the top 5 universities in the North, the University has climbed 8 places in the prestigious Good University Guide, up from 60th to 52nd in the table.

This year the University of Hull moves up to number 4 in the North, with the universities of Leeds, York and Sheffield in the top three spots.

This result builds on last year’s success which saw the University of Hull climb 17 places from 77th to joint 60th in the table, and named as number 5 in the top 5 universities in the northern ranking.

Please change to: The University has climbed 51 places over the last 3 years.

Earlier this week, the University of Hull was also pleased to announce that it had risen 19 places in the 2022 Guardian University Rankings.

Professor Susan Lea, Vice-Chancellor at the University of Hull

Professor Susan Lea, Vice-Chancellor at the University of Hull, said: “A rise of 8 places to 52nd in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide, as well as taking our place in the top 4 in the northern ranking is an extremely positive result. The fact that it follows such a strong performance in The Guardian rankings is also to be celebrated.

“As we welcome new and returning students to campus for the start of the new Academic Year – I hope that our students will join staff in sharing in our success and take pleasure in knowing that the University of Hull is thriving, despite all the challenges that COVID-19 has presented to the University sector.

“I would like to thank all of our students and staff at the University – for it is their hard work and commitment that has made our remarkable success in these rankings possible.”

The rankings list is based on an analysis of student satisfaction with teaching quality and student experience, entry standards, research quality, and graduate prospects. Since 2018 the guide also includes social inclusion rankings for universities in England and Wales. The tables are based on key measures to reflect the diversity of their intake and subsequent success when attending university.

The University of Hull is celebrating a strong second year in both The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide and The Guardian rankings: Up to 53rd in the Guardian table from 72nd last year, the University has climbed a total of 42 places in the last two years.

This is the University’s highest position in The Guardian’s league table since 2010, when Hull was ranked 52nd.

Four courses ranked in the top 10 nationally – American Studies, Physics, Earth & Marine Sciences and Education.

Across the last three Guardian University Rankings publications, the University has climbed 53 places – the greatest increase of any university during the period.

The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2022 provides the definitive rankings for UK universities and the most comprehensive overview of higher education in Britain. It includes profiles on 135 universities, making use of the latest data published in the past two months.

The Graduate Prospect indicator is based on the most recent Higher Education Graduate Outcomes statistics (for UK domicile full-time first degree leavers, 15 months after graduating) for the academic year 2018/19, published by HESA July 2021.
