The University of Hull is one of the top universities in Yorkshire and the Humber according to The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2023.

Once again named in the top 5 universities in the Yorkshire and Humber ranking*, the University is ranked fourth for the second year, while the universities of York, Sheffield and Leeds take the top three spots, respectively.

The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2023 provides students and their parents with a first reference point on the path to finding a university place. It contains full profiles of all universities.

The academic league table is made up of eight indicators including student satisfaction with teaching quality and their wider student experience, research quality, graduate prospects, entrance qualifications held by new students, degree results achieved, student/staff ratios, and degree completion rates.

Professor David Petley, Vice-Chancellor at the University of Hull, said: “Taking our place in the top 4 in the guide’s ranking for Yorkshire and the Humber for the second year is a positive result. The University has demonstrated a strong performance in a series of rankings during the past year that are a testament to the dedication and hard work of our staff and students here at Hull.

“This week, we are delighted to welcome new and returning students to campus for the start of the new term. I wish them all the best for their time with us – and hope that they will join our staff in celebrating all the University has achieved over the past year. Not least the graduation of more than 5000 students this Summer, including more than 1800 nurses and other allied health students who are already providing an invaluable boost to the NHS.

“Although I have only been at the University of Hull as Vice-Chancellor for just a few weeks, I already have a strong sense of our community here on campus that I feel is really special and sets us apart. Every day, I see first-hand the commitment and supportive attitude of staff and existing students – as they prepare to welcome our new students as they embark on their journey with us.

“We are building real momentum in the University and with huge investment this year, strong research results, and a positive and ambitious strategy for the coming years, focusing on social justice and sustainability, we look towards a fairer, brighter, carbon neutral future for all.”

Professor David Petley, Vice-Chancellor at the University of Hull
