Vital repairs planned for Stoneferry Road roundabout

A roundabout on Stoneferry Road will undergo essential repairs next spring.

The road surface on the roundabout that links Stoneferry Road, Mount Pleasant and Cleveland Street is in poor condition, and resurfacing is most cost-effective and least disruptive way to improve it.

The roundabout was not within the scope of the recent Stoneferry Corridor project, which focused on the area north of the Stoneferry Road railway bridge.

The resurfacing work will involve removing the existing surface layer and inspecting the layer below, known as the binder course. If the binder course is found to be in poor condition, it will be replaced before the road is resurfaced.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, Portfolio Holder for Transportation, Roads and Highways, said: “Since the completion of the Stoneferry Corridor project, people have been asking when we will be repairing this roundabout, which we know is in very poor condition.

“As we strive to minimise disruption, we have planned these improvements for next spring when there will be the least conflict with other roadworks across the city. We have rescheduled some other works to make this possible.

“Road users can look forward to a much smoother ride in the near future.”

Hull City Council will now begin the tender process to appoint a contractor to carry out the work. The exact dates for the work will be confirmed in the new year when the tender process is complete.

The work is expected to cost around £65,000 and is being funded from the highways capital budget.
