A small team of volunteers are delivering a maritime themed guided tour, showcasing Hull’s historic maritime sites around the city centre.

Volunteers are currently undertaking the accredited qualification – the Institute of Tourist Guiding White Badge award, which involves lectures and practical sessions.

People are being asked to support the volunteers ahead of their exams by booking a free practice tour. These last two hours including stops and will take place every Monday and Wednesday between 2 August – 8 September, with a 10.30am and 1pm slot to choose from.

As part of the guided tours, you will discover more about Hull’s maritime heritage and how the exciting maritime project will take shape over the next four years, delivering a brand-new maritime experience. Stops will include the exterior of the Hull Maritime Museum, the future location of the Arctic Corsair at North End Shipyard and the exterior of the Spurn Lightship in Hull Marina.

Councillor Daren Hale, Leader of Hull City Council, said: “This is an exciting opportunity for volunteers to play a key role in developing Hull’s tourism offer, revealing the city’s maritime heritage.

“The guided tours will offer people the chance to find out more about the exciting future plans to transform some of our maritime treasures, thanks to our major funders – The National Lottery Heritage Fund.”

These pilot tours will support the volunteers in completing their training programme and once complete, plans will get underway to deliver further tours in the future.
