Work to repair potholes and preserve Hull’s road begins next week

A programme of “microsurfacing” work to preserve the condition of Hull’s roads and reduce the number of potholes will begin this month.

Hull City Council will be carrying out microsurfacing to 30 sections of predominantly residential road across the city from Monday 11 April, weather permitting.

Microsurfacing is a specialist thin surface treatment applied to roads that are starting to deteriorate, providing a cost-effective, environmentally friendly way of extending the life of the road by sealing out water and creating a new top layer.

Around 48,000m2 of highway will be resurfaced, which will require some road closures.

Where this is the case, advance warning signs will be in place and residents in the affected areas will also be informed via letter drops.

How the road will look after microsurfacing treatment

Andy Bell, head of highways infrastructure at Hull City Council, said: “Microsurfacing keeps our unclassified roads in good condition, helps prevent potholes and avoids the need for more significant and expensive reconstruction work further down the line.

“We ask residents to make arrangements to park elsewhere during the dates shown on the signs. If cars are left parked on the road, this will prevent the work going ahead.

“Other issues, such as weather and material supplies, can also cause delays to the programme.

“We thank motorists and residents in advance for their patience.”

Work will take place between 7am and 5pm unless stated otherwise, and each road should only take a day or two, but may take longer.

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times, but residents may be asked to wait a short time before driving or walking on the road.

Representatives will be on site at all times during the works to assist residents with any issues.

The work will be carried out by Colas Group.
