Hull and East Yorkshire’s HEY! Volunteering Programme has secured a £200,000 grant from the Heritage Innovation Fund, ensuring its continued growth and impact across the region.
The funding, delivered over two years from 2024 to 2026 as part of the Heritage Innovation Fund – Growth Phase, supports initiatives aimed at developing innovative practices within the heritage sector workforce.

The grant will enable the HEY! Volunteering Programme to expand across Hull and East Yorkshire, focusing on five key areas: volunteer recruitment, training and support, enhanced engagement and communication strategies, and the provision of new resources and equipment.
Councillor Rob Pritchard, portfolio holder for culture and leisure at Hull City Council, said, “I would like to offer my congratulations to the HEY! Volunteers team on this grant. The programme continues to prove incredibly popular and, as a volunteer myself, I look forward to seeing how it develops and grows with this additional support.”
Councillor Nick Coultish, East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism, added: “HEY! Volunteering is a brilliant initiative and, after the introduction of the HEY! Brid cohort in Bridlington earlier this year, we’re looking forward to seeing this project grow even further across the region.”
The HEY! Volunteering Programme continues to be a vital part of Hull and East Yorkshire’s cultural and community landscape, with this latest funding ensuring it can reach even more people and projects in the years to come.
