Cottingham mum opens charming bakery filled with sweet treats

A couple of months ago, Cottingham mum Abigail took a leap and opened Abigail Bakes, following six years of baking full-time from her home kitchen – turning a long-time dream into reality. A mum of three, she’s up bright and early each day doing the school run before heading in to bake everything fresh all by herself!

Inside, you’ll find a delightful selection of treats: fresh brownies, filled “bronuts” (brownies shaped like doughnuts and filled with cream), marble cookies, cakes by the slice, and even mini bags of sweets. For something colder, there’s ice cream in all the classic flavours and seriously lush milkshakes. She’s planning to add hot drinks soon too, with hot custard served alongside bakes during winter.

There are also handcrafted gifts and decorations from other local makers on the shelves, and Abigail creates beautiful personalised occasion cakes as well—she even supplies a few cafés and restaurants around the area.

You’ll find Abigail Bakes at 175 Hallgate, Cottingham, open Thursday from 10am to 4pm, Friday and Saturday from 10am to 3pm. It’s closed Sunday to Wednesday, so be sure to pop in towards the end of the week if you’re after something sweet.

Whether you’re just treating yourself or planning something special, this charming new bakery is definitely worth a visit!
