This mouthwatering NEW Afghan restaurant has just opened in Hull

Afghan Cuisine has just opened its doors on Princes Avenue, taking over the spot that was once Ray’s Place. It’s the latest venture from Masood and his family, who’ve been cooking their own takes on Afghan staples at home for decades—and now they’ve launched their first restaurant.

From the moment we stepped in, the welcome felt warm and genuine. We started with a complimentary traditional Afghan soup, a lovely way to set the tone before moving on to the main event.

The highlight was the Seenee sharing platter: a generous spread of grilled chicken wings, lamb chops, koobideh and kebabs, surrounded by three types of rice, with a meatball and lentil korma nestled in the middle.

To wash it all down, we had a mix of mojitos and tried Doogh, a savoury yoghurt drink flavoured with salt and dried mint. It’s such a clever pairing — the food can be spicy, but one sip of Doogh cools your mouth perfectly, so even those who don’t handle heat well can enjoy every bite.

We also sampled mantu dumplings, chapli kebab, chicken and lamb karahi, and fresh Afghan naan made on the spot, the traditional way.

Everything at Afghan Cuisine is made fresh using the family’s authentic recipes—even the desserts, which Masood’s mum whipped up minutes before they reached our table. You can really taste their passion in every dish; everything was simply fantastic.

This is a brilliant new addition to Hull’s food scene—genuine, family‑run and full of flavour. You’ll find Afghan Cuisine right on Princes Avenue.
