Opened last August, Afghan Restaurant at 214 Spring Bank is a family-run venture led by Tawfiq, his wife, and close friends. They saw an opportunity, gave the place a fresh new look and launched Hull’s first Afghan restaurant.
It’s already been nominated in the Best Restaurant category at the 2025 Business Awards — we had high hopes, and they absolutely lived up to them.
We tried a bit of almost everything: from the warming chicken and lentil soup to a generous mixed platter featuring lamb karahi, fish, mantu dumplings, chapli kebab and qabli palau with tender lamb shank. On the sides were daal, kofta, bamieh, kidney beans, salad and freshly baked naan. To finish, we had Ferni and a mix of traditional drinks – mango lassi, Afghan tea and doogh.
Every dish is freshly made each day, and the team is committed to supporting local suppliers wherever possible.
They also give back to the community – proudly sponsoring Longhill Ravens Under-9 football and the local Afghan Cricket Club.
If you’re planning a group meal, they’ve got a private party room at the back.
Currently, they offer 10% off Monday to Thursday between midday and 5pm – a great excuse to pop in and try something new.
Afghan Restaurant is located at 214 Spring Bank, Hull, HU3 1NP. It’s open Monday to Thursday from 12 noon to 11pm, and Friday to Sunday from 12 noon to 12 midnight.
