It’s Refugee Week next week – an annual festival celebrating the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary.
Hull Refugee Week includes events all over the city. Here’s a summary of what’s going on –
Monday 19 June
What: A celebration of artwork of refugees with an exhibition, poem writing and sharing. Cultural refreshments available.
When: 12pm onwards
Where: Welcome House (Wright Street)
What: HACA and Fit Mum’s City Walk.
When: 6.30pm-7.30pm
Where: Hull Afro Caribbean Association (Park Street)
Tuesday 20 June
What: Presentation on the Festival of Language, Community and ESOL. Free tickets available on Eventbrite.
When: 4pm-6pm
Where: Brynmor Jones Library, University of Hull
What: STREAMS – A celebration of artwork created by refugee communities across our region. The evening will feature Ukrainian artist Nadia Mykhailova and Jill Howitt from Critical Fish on refugee community arts in our local history. Free admission and refreshments.
When: 6pm-8pm
Where: Art Link (Princes Avenue)
What: Refugee Week’s Adelphi Gig – Performers are Tristan Valentine, Andrii (Ukraine singer/songwriter), Lee Smith (Shiznitz), Cecil Jones, and Joe Solo. £6 on the door. All proceeds to Hull Help for Refugees, Hull4Ukraine and Open Doors.

Where: Adelphi, De Grey Street
Wednesday 21 June
What: Hull Help for Refugees’ crochet, knitting and sewing group will have open sessions for people to drop in.
When: 10am-12pm
Where: Welcome House (Wright Street)
What: Refugee Celebration Day – Event will include food from five countries, national dress, traditional music, a guest speaker, craft sessions and more.
When: 11am-2pm

What: Refugee Council – Conversation Café with poet attending.
When: 1pm-2.30pm
Where: Hull Truck (Ferensway)
Friday 23 June
What: Hull Afro Caribbean Association Social Event – Hot food and refreshments.
