All you need to know about the huge kite festival near Hull this weekend

Some of the world’s largest inflatable kites will take to the skies above the dramatic cliffs of the East Yorkshire coast for the FREE Bridlington Kite Festival this weekend.

Taking place on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 May 2024, kites of all descriptions, sizes and colours will take to the air for two days of aerial displays over Sewerby Fields.

Year on year, internationally renowned experts return to the East Yorkshire coast to provide spectacular displays for thousands of spectators over the weekend. Alongside the kites, there will be food and drink stalls, fairground rides, face painting and children’s entertainment, making it an action-packed, fun-filled festival for all the family.

There will be professional demonstrations and visitors can get involved, with kites available for loan during supervised sessions.

Food stalls

  • Dreamshakers traditional ice cream van, serving ice-creams, ice lollies and more! One of the much-loved regulars at the festival.
  • Kettlecorn NYC is a range of flavoured kettlecorn, so pop along for pop-up gourmet popcorn the old-fashioned way.
  • Louise’s Ice Creams and Kinky Donuts will be at the festival with yummy mini donuts, gelato, and drinks, including fresh lemonade – made to make your mouth water.
  • Mr Roberts Traditional Fish and Chips brings a taste of the sea to the festival as no trip to the seaside would be the same without some freshly-cooked, delicious, fish and chips.
  • Love Hog Roast is a Yorkshire-based company, providing a spit-roast with its delicious crackling. Or start your day with a bacon butty or sausage bap.
  • The Two Tossers Neapolitan-style Pizzas serve freshly-made pizzas with a great selection of toppings! You won’t want to miss out on these amazing pizzas.
  • Scrumptious Cakes and Bakes selling traybakes, biscuits, cakes, tarts, and scones for you over the weekend and you can even pick up a tasty treat to take home!
  • UFER Coffee in their very stylish silver-bullet van serve locally-roasted, freshly made, delicious coffee. They also have teas, hot chocolate, and sweet snacks.
  • Natural Pawprints have joined us with their natural dog chews and toys, so you can treat your favourite member of the family!
  • New for 2024, MMM Pies a bespoke horse trailer serving freshly-baked, award-winning artisan pie and peas.
  • New for 2024, Mimi’s Horse Box Amelia and her team will be selling artisan coffees, teas, superfood smoothies, luxury milkshakes, bubble tea, themed iced coffees, frappes, snacks and more!
  • New for 2024, Sama Sama Filipino and Southeast Asian food fusion use the best local ingredients and suppliers. Serving a variety of bao buns, noodles, light bights, skewers, spring rolls and much more.
  • New for 2024, The Cart Shed delivers fabulous food at various locations across East Yorkshire, locally-sourced fresh ingredients creating a Greek delight.

Other entertainment & attractions

AR Entertainments

While the kites are soaring high in the sky, enjoy some of the great FREE entertainment on the ground.

Free Fall – Climb the steps up to the top before taking a ‘leap of faith’ from over the 14ft wall onto the inflatable stunt mattress or ‘chicken run’ down the special coated slide for extra speed.

Bootcamp Challenge Assault Course – 26 metres (86 feet) of inflatable fun. Contestants negotiate their way through different obstacles, from squeezers to the tyre gauntlet challenge, swinging across the inflatable ravine, through the tunnels, up the steps and down the slide!

Both these activities will be available on the Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 5pm and are FREE.

In true festival style, there’ll be the chance to get faces painted for the full kite festival vibe!

Fantastic Faces paint unique and professional designs, created in a wonderfully artistic manner.



MJ Leisure – Old Tyme Fun Fair

All the fun of the fair… roll up, roll up!

Big Swingboats, Hook-a-Duck, children’s Chairoplanes, Octopus ride, Milk Churn game.



The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. Since 1805 there’s been a lifeboat at Bridlington, crewed entirely by volunteers and reliant upon donations. Make sure to visit them at the festival they’ve lots going on – fun for all ages.

Sewerby Methodist Church

A Friendly Welcome Awaits You At Sewerby Methodist Church Café.

Our Church Hall will be open to the public for the sale of refreshments on the Saturday from 10am – 4pm and on Sunday from noon – 4pm.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome.

Toilets are available at the above times.


Organised by the Visit East Yorkshire Events Team, the festival is one of several major events across East Yorkshire each year that helps to boost the local economy. The event is held in partnership with The Northern Kite Group, which formed in 1978, and has members across the country.

The festival will run from 10am-5pm both days and is free to attend. Visitors can arrive in style on the land train which runs between Sewerby Hall & Gardens and East Riding Leisure Bridlington every half an hour.
