There’s a creative little spot tucked away in Hull’s Old Town that’s perfect for chocolate lovers – and it makes for a genuinely fun (and tasty) way to spend an hour or two.
Watch the video on our Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok – live at 8pm tonight (15.07).
We headed back to one of our favourite places on Princes Dock Street, Patisserie House, where Michelin-trained chef Steven Lodge runs hands-on artisan chocolate workshops inside his cosy café and kitchen.
After a quick demo, it was time to get stuck in – learning how to temper, fill, and decorate our own handmade chocolates using top-quality ingredients. You can go all in on the patterns once you’ve got the hang of it, and the fillings are just as fun to play around with – we made passionfruit, coffee, and honey-centred treats. They’re happy to cater for dairy-free and vegan diets too, so nobody has to miss out.
The vibe is really relaxed, you don’t need any experience, and Steven’s friendly, easy-going approach makes it all feel very doable – whether you’re coming with friends or flying solo.
Once you’re done, you’ll walk away with your own box of chocolates, which makes a great gift – or a great snack for the journey home. And while you’re there, you can grab a coffee or pastry from the café too – everything’s homemade, with gluten-free and vegan options available.
You’ll find Patisserie House at 17 Princes Dock Street, HU1 2LP. The café is open Thursday from 9am to 3pm, Friday and Saturday until 5pm, and on Sundays from 10am to 4pm – it’s closed Monday to Wednesday, so plan ahead.
