Biggest events to look out for in Hull & East Yorkshire in 2024

As 2024 unfolds, Hull and East Yorkshire is gearing up for a year packed with exciting events! From music festivals to cultural celebrations, here’s a rundown of the biggest events to add to your 2024 calendar.

The year kicks off with the Hull Trinity Festival Rebooted in Hull City Centre, on Sat 27 Jan & Sat 30 Mar. This event is a throwback to the early days of the Hull Trinity Festival, where a selection of bars in the Old Town will be echoing with live music. It’s a celebration of the best in local and regional talent, with more dates yet to be confirmed.

As spring arrives, Pick n Mix Festival will take over Zebedees Yard in April 2024. This year’s festival, themed ‘Acceptable in the 90’s & 00’s’, promises a nostalgic journey through these iconic decades of music, right in the heart of Zebedees Yard.

Superhero Day at Queen Victoria Square on Fri 31 May (TBC) is potentially set to be a top event too. Last year, HullBID hosted this fantastic day where everyone got the chance to meet their favourite superheroes, have their photo taken with them, and learn how to be a superhero with Superman and Wonder Woman’s superhero camp. This year, it hopes to return, date to be confirmed, offering more exciting superhero encounters.

Throughout the summer, from June to September (dates TBC), Hull Street Food Nights will spice up Zebedees Yard. This delicious event offers a wide range of hot food and drinks taking inspiration from all over the world, in an open-air setting, with over 30 food stalls offering a range of hot food and drinks inspired by global cuisines.

Mid-May brings the Bridlington Kite Festival to Sewerby Fields on Sat 18 May – Sun 19 May. Expect to see some of the world’s largest inflatable kites soaring above the East Yorkshire coast, with kites of all sizes and colours making for two days of stunning aerial displays.

Music lovers should look out for Trinity Live at Trinity Market. Trinity Live is a free showcase of many of the bands who will be playing at the Humber Street Sesh, as well as other amazing local artists! Last year brought 7 sessions every Thursday from June through to the end of July, and we’ll likely see it return in Summer this year too.

Hull Pride will hopefully be bringing its yearly celebration of LGBT+ culture to Hull City Centre & Queen’s Gardens once again. This event includes a parade through the city centre, live music, speeches, and a variety of other activities. The date for this year hasn’t been confirmed, but if all goes well, it should be taking place in late July as last year’s did.

In the same month, Medieval Mayhem is set to transform the Museums Quarter into a medieval encampment in Late July (TBC). Prepare for a weekend of medieval merriment and mayhem!

Humber Street Sesh returns to Hull Marina on Sat 3 Aug. This multi-award-winning music festival is a platform for emerging musicians and artists, celebrating its 11th year. Early bird tickets are available now until Wed 14 Feb.

Dino Day is anticipated to roar back into Hull City Centre on Fri 9 Aug (TBC). Dino Day last year gave everyone the chance to get up close and personal with a giant T-Rex, velociraptor, spinosaurus, baby dinosaurs and comedy cavemen in their cave kart. It’s a great event for the whole family, and will hopefully be taking place at the start of August this year, to be confirmed.

In the summer of 2024 (exact location and date TBC), the Flamborough Fire Festival is moving to a new festival arena, bringing its usual fireballs, torchlight procession, mead halls, Viking costume competition and much much more!

Tribfest at Sledmere House from Fri 16 Aug – Sun 18 Aug is not to be missed. The multi-award-winning festival returns after winning Best Tourism Event in East Yorkshire in 2023, Contribution to East Riding in 2021, and Best Entertainment Venue in 2018! The festival promises an unforgettable experience with a variety of music and entertainment.

Wrapping up August, Freedom Fest will bring its unique blend of world-class performances and exhibitions to Hull City Centre from Wed 28 Aug – Sun 1 Sep. This famous festival is a highlight of Hull’s cultural calendar, drawing thousands of visitors each year.

Looking ahead to autumn, Hull Fair is expected to light up Walton Street in Early October (exact date TBC). Although we don’t have an exact date yet, Europe’s largest annual fair should be landing around early October as usual this year, with more than 300 attractions including rides, games, and much more.

November is all about laughter with the Hull Comedy Festival taking place throughout Hull city centre. Hull’s annual comedy festival returned in 2023 with a huge line-up of hilarious comedy acts from all over the UK, with over 7,500 people attending the 17th festival! It will return again this year, with events and acts throughout November.

As the festive season approaches, the Santa Arrival Parade will bring holiday cheer to Hull City Centre in Late November. This beloved tradition signals the start of Christmas in the city and is all set to enchant young and old alike once more this year!

The Light Switch-On will illuminate Queen Victoria Square in Late November too. This event is a visual treat, featuring stunning fireworks and performances that set the tone for the holiday season.

The Beverley Festival of Christmas in Beverley city centre on Sun 8 Dec, from 10am to 4pm, will return in 2024 for its 28th year, transforming the historic town of Beverley into a magical Christmas shopper’s wonderland.

2024 is set to be a vibrant and eventful year in Hull and East Yorkshire. With such a diverse range of events, there’s something to suit every interest and age group. So, grab your calendars and start planning your year around these exciting events!
