If you are gunning for an action packed Summer, Hull is undoubtedly the place to be. The long-standing cultural traditions intrinsic to our beloved city have had something of an upswing in recent years as the area has become increasingly vogueish and the exciting festivities on offer in the summertime reflect this. Therefore, this article presents five of the biggest events coming to Hull this summer.
Humber Street Sesh
Humber Street Sesh will make its long-awaited return this year, returning to its roots, as they are, on Hull Marina. Having originated from the Tuesday Sesh, a once-weekly event in Polar Bear, the multi-award-winning Humber Street Sesh has existed since 2012 and will be celebrating its tenth anniversary this year which will be all the more special considering the festival had previously taken a two-year leave of absence owing to COVID-19 and floor barrier works. Humber Street Sesh 2022 will take place on August 13 2022 at Hull Marina — between the hours of 12:00 to 23:00. If you are interested in attending, tickets can be purchased via the Humber Street Sesh website (currently, early bird tickets cost £11) which, among their social media accounts, is listed below:

Held in the charming surroundings of Sledmere House, Driffield, Tribfest aims to give families an affordable, fantastic, fun weekend away. Featuring a plethora of tribute bands (last year, they had fifty-six) Tribfest also offers a range of retail and catering outlets which makes it perfect for all types of people. Freedom Festival
The avant-garde Freedom Festival returns this year between Friday 26 August and Sunday 4 September. Freedom Festival is Hull’s award-winning international arts festival, presenting thought-provoking, playful, and powerful performances that address the world we live in. The child of Freedom Festival Arts Trust, who have presented The Awakening and The Hull Vigil this year, Freedom Festival appeared in adapted form in 2020 and 2021 and achieved great success; therefore, on the strength of previous performances, this year’s Freedom Festival is a dead-certain must-see. If you are interested, tickets will be purchasable at a later date via their website, which, among their social media accounts, is listed below:

Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has, this year, became the longest-reigning monarch in British history, having served this United Kingdom and Her Commonwealth for seventy years. To commemorate, as I am sure you are all aware, Platinum Jubilee celebrations are being held across the country, not least in Hull where, according to Hull City Council, a ‘bumper Jubilee weekend’ is planned between Thursday 2 June and Sunday 5 June. An event titled The Humber Platinum Jubilee Flotilla will initiate proceedings; here, seventy vessels will sail from Minerva Pier to the Humber Bridge. What’s more, a Jubilee smartphone game is being launched that will see users trawling Hull City Centre in search of digital prizes. The celebrations are not limited to Hull, however, with a number of events being held in nearby East Yorkshire. For example, Beverley is set to host the Big Jubilee Tea Party which in addition to the Bridlington Big Lunch Street Party and the Willerby Jubilee Garden Party, are bumper events for your calendar. Long live the celebrations! To find out more about Platinum Jubilee Celebrations in Hull and East Yorkshire, visit the following websites:

Yum! Festival of Food and Drink, an award winning food and drink spectacular, will be back for its eighth year on Friday 5 August and Saturday 6 August. Being held around the Rose Bowl fountain, Hull City Centre, Yum! promises to offer over fifty stalls of scrumptious food, a variety of alcoholic and soft drinks, as well as live music, cooking demonstrations, and children’s entertainment. An exiting event to visit this summer. Entry to Yum! will be free although, as always, it is worth visiting their online locations to get your mouths watering and your appetites wetted:
