Bus lane operating times to change soon as traffic regulation orders confirmed

A decision record has been published by Hull City Council, confirming four traffic regulation orders (TROs) to change the operating hours of the city’s bus lanes from their current all-day operating times to peak time, in both directions, only.

Confirmation of the orders forms part of a legal process that the council is required to follow and, following changes to signage, will see the bus lanes operate from 7am – 9:30am and 4pm – 6:30pm, Monday to Saturday, except for the Carr Lane bus gate which will remain in operation 24/7.

The TROs have also amended the prohibition of waiting and loading restrictions on Holderness Road, Beverley Road and Spring Bank during peak hours to remove the ability for vehicles to wait or load within the bus lanes during peak times making the operation of the bus lanes more efficient and safer for cyclists.

The council’s cabinet decided to propose changes to the operating times of the city’s bus lanes in October last year.

TROs were then published on 27 November 2023, which was followed by a 21-day formal objection period that closed on 17 December 2023.

The council received 46 objections, in total, from various stakeholders, which have now been considered and responded to.

Following confirmation of the TROs, the council anticipates that changes to signs will start in March with the new operating times coming into force shortly after completion of installation.
