We recently stopped by East Riding’s Adult Learning Centre to check out their brand-new Learning for Leisure workshops – and honestly, they’re such a great way to spend your time.
We got stuck into loads of activities, starting with pottery making, where we crafted and painted our very own Hull What’s On–themed mug. Then it was on to sewing, where we pieced together our own patchwork oven cloths – which, if we say so ourselves, looked pretty amazing.
There are cooking classes too, where you can learn international dishes from scratch. We made focaccia topped with garlic butter and olives – and let’s just say, we definitely didn’t leave hungry!
Each course is designed to help you learn something new, meet people, and have fun doing it. Workshops start from as little as £10 per week, with a mix of single cooking sessions and themed 4–6 week courses covering creative subjects like photography, art, pottery, crochet, sewing, and even Spanish for beginners.
The facilities are brilliant – there are pottery wheels and firing ovens, a big kitchen workshop, sewing machines, computer labs, and plenty of classroom space. It’s also really welcoming and relaxed, so you don’t need any experience, just curiosity and a willingness to give something new a try.
