“Romantic, hilarious and stunning!” – Gershwin’s Crazy For You to make it’s Hull debut

Hessle Theatre Company is set to dazzle Hull audiences with the regional premiere of the Broadway hit Crazy For You at Hull New Theatre this month.

As the first performance outside the West End concludes, Director Martin Beaumont and his talented cast are ready to showcase their rendition of this ‘golden-age’ musical, laugh out loud comedy with spectacular dance numbers.

Sam Sims from Hull Is This praises the production, stating, “Hessle really has pulled off something special here with many aspects of Crazy For You being of a West End standard, with particular emphasis on the principal cast who are fantastic.” This sentiment echoes the anticipation and excitement surrounding the show’s arrival in Hull.

Crazy For You revitalizes the Gershwin classic Girl Crazy, infusing it with new life through hilariously updated humour and stunning dance sequences. Jackie Foottit of North West End UK highlights the show’s impressive execution: “All singing voices were amazing, and the choreography had some really unique actions, some involving thick ropes and pick axes!”.

The story, a delightful mix of romance, comedy, and mistaken identities, is set against a backdrop of unforgettable Gershwin tunes like ‘Someone to Watch Over Me’, ‘They Can’t Take That Away from Me’, and the show-stopping ‘I Got Rhythm’.

Fairy Powered Productions promises, “If the full show is half as good as this open rehearsal, the New Theatre audience is in for an absolute treat. This is definitely a show not to be missed.”

Director Martin Beaumont, inspired by his own experiences of the West End production, aims to replicate the joy and spectacle that Crazy For You embodies. His efforts have not gone unnoticed, with Sam Sims commending, “Kudos to the show’s director and choreographer, Martin Beaumont, whose hard work and dedication have helped make this show what it is – a triumph.”

As the story unfolds in 1930s Broadway, audiences are transported through a tale of dreams, love, and showmanship, encapsulated by the vibrant energy of Hessle Theatre Company’s cast.

Elinor Kirby and Ben Bailey, leading the cast as Polly and Bobby, have already begun to captivate early viewers with their chemistry and dedication to their roles.

Hessle Theatre Company’s Crazy For You is not just a performance; it’s a testament to the local talent that rivals professional productions. Jackie Foottit advises, “Don’t let the word ‘amateur’ put you off buying tickets for Crazy For You; this group are far from amateur in my book.”

As Hessle Theatre Company prepares for the official opening, the enthusiasm from early previews suggests that this production of Crazy for You will be a memorable addition to Hull’s cultural offerings, further cementing the company’s reputation for excellence in community theatre.

Hessle Theatre Company, a fixture in Hull’s theatrical landscape since 1922, continues its tradition of bringing high-quality, award-winning theatre to local audiences.

Their commitment to excellence and community engagement makes each production, including this latest offering, a celebration of the joy and camaraderie that theatre brings to both performers and audiences alike.
