The new leader of Hull City Council and cabinet has been formally agreed at today’s full council meeting.
The decision to elect Councillor Daren Hale as leader earlier this week, was ratified by the ruling Labour group today. The party’s previous leader, Councillor Stephen Brady, decided to step down following the party’s local election win earlier this month.
Councillor Hester Bridges has taken up the deputy seat, and will remain chair of Health & Wellbeing Board, also taking responsibility for parks, leisure, and Active Hull.
A number of new cabinet members and portfolios have also been confirmed today as follows:
- Councillor John Black – housing and homelessness
- Councillor Shane McMurray – children’s services
- Councillor Aneesa Akbar – Communities, libraries, area teams, taxis and licensing, liaising with BAME communities, gipsy and travellers
- Councillor Rosie Nicola – environment, climate change, open spaces, waste management
- Councillor Rosemary Pantelakis – corporate services, museums, cultural assets
- Councillor Phil Webster – legal and finance
- Councillor Gwen Lunn – adult services and public protection
- Councillor Dean Kirk – highways, roads, rivers, parking, flooding
All posts will start with immediate effect.
