You might not have considered the DoubleTree by Hilton in Hull for a night out, but it’s actually a brilliant option – and you don’t need to be staying there to enjoy it. The hotel is on Ferensway, right next to the station and bus interchange, and you can walk straight in from the street without a booking.
It’s a great choice whether you’re out as a couple or with a group, with everything you need for a full evening under one roof. The Marco Pierre White Steakhouse on the ground floor is ideal for pre-drinks and dinner, with a menu that covers everything from hot scotch eggs and fresh salads to tomahawk steak sharers, salmon, and more. We were especially impressed by the desserts – the sticky toffee pudding, Eton Mess, and cheesecake were all top notch.
After dinner, head up to the Lexington rooftop bar for cocktails and views over the city. It’s a lovely spot when the weather’s decent, but there’s a stylish indoor bar too if it’s raining. The drinks menu includes plenty of choice, from reimagined classics like the Sazerac and Singapore Sling to their own creations like the Riverboat Blues. There are also mocktails and plenty of alcohol-free options if you’re not drinking.
The venue regularly hosts entertainment too – live music, tribute acts, themed party nights – either in the rooftop bar or the ballroom. It’s worth checking what’s on before you go. And if you’ve already got tickets for a gig or show, Connexin Live and the city’s theatres are just a short walk away.
If you fancy making a full night of it, the bonus is you don’t need to book a taxi home. Staying over means everything’s easy – and it’s probably more affordable than you’d think.
Marco Pierre White Steakhouse is open daily from 12pm to 9pm. The Lexington bar is open Wednesday from 5pm to midnight, Thursday from 2pm to midnight, Friday and Saturday from 12pm to late (1am on Saturdays), and Sunday from 12pm to 8pm. For more detailed info and a map, visit their place listing.
