East Park access & parking changes to be discussed after public consultation

Plans for changes at East Park will be discussed at the East Area Committee next week, after public consultation came to an end.

One of Hull’s most popular parks is subject to planned changes to improve parking and access.

As part of the proposals, the main gates to East Park will reopen to motorists (in line with existing park opening times) for the first time since 2020, creating increased parking, including additional disabled bays near the park’s café.

Other plans include the introduction of a one-way system from the main gates across the front of the park along with new footpaths.

Vehicle access would be along a 350m stretch from the Holderness Road entrance to Woodford Leisure Centre only. There are no plans to allow vehicular access to the rest of the park.

Following a week-long public consultation in December, suggested new access arrangements for motorists from James Reckitt Avenue to the model boat pond are now not recommended.

In addition to this, there would also be new safety measures implemented to coincide with the introduction of Martyn’s Law. A petition regarding the plans will also be considered at the meeting.

Cllr Rob Pritchard, portfolio holder for culture and leisure at Hull City Council, said: “We have listened to our residents and those who have contributed to our consultation and now we await the thoughts of the East Area Committee.”
