Thousands of families in Hull will benefit from Easter Healthy Holidays packs – full of healthy meal and activity ideas, plus items to encourage healthy play over the school holidays.

Children who are in receipt of free school meals will be the majority of the recipients. Meanwhile the broader activity programme, will see trusted organisations across the city run online and outdoor activities, open to all children across the city.

About 8000 packs filled with activities, will cater for all ages. They include art challenges, paint, chalks, mindfulness colouring books and pencils, outdoor play items such as Frisbees, footballs, water bottles, hula-hoops, agility balls, as well as skipping ropes to join in some fun challenges and competition provided by Tommy Coyle in an online challenge.

The creative and early years packs were developed courtesy of Scrapstore, The Herd and My Pockets. Absolutely Cultured volunteers provided the many hours needed to bring the packs together.

Councillor Peter Clark, Portfolio Holder for learning, skills and safeguarding children said: “School holidays can be pressure points for some families because of increased costs and reduced incomes. This means some children are more likely to experience ‘unhealthy holidays’ in terms of nutrition and physical health.

“Not only does the grant target those in need, it also offers all children and families across the city free-to-access online and outdoor activities.”

The initiative is funded by the Department for Education (DfE), and coordinated by Hull City Council’s Youth and Children’s Centre teams, to give children, young people and families access to support and safe activity.
