Open-top bus ride gives the best views in Scarborough – and it’s running daily this summer

If you’re heading to Scarborough this summer, there’s a fun and easy way to take in the sights – and we finally gave it a go. The Beachcomber open-top bus is running every day once again, and it’s safe to say we absolutely loved the experience.

We couldn’t have picked better weather for it either – sunny skies, fresh sea air, and a top-deck view of the coastline that really made the journey special. We rode it from the Scarborough Spa stop all the way up to Peasholme Park, passing beaches, arcades, the marina and even the Ferris Wheel. It was such a chilled way to enjoy the town’s seaside charm.

To kick things off, we arrived at the Spa stop using the old Victorian tramway – a really fun touch that made the whole day feel like a proper classic seaside trip. That tramway’s just celebrated its 150th anniversary too, which is a great little bonus if you like a bit of local history.

At the other end, Peasholme Park is a gorgeous stop-off. It’s peaceful and green, ideal for a walk or a picnic, and they often have live music or open-air events on during the summer – worth keeping an eye out for what’s on.

The Beachcomber itself is really affordable too, especially if you’re visiting with family or friends. A group day ticket for four people is just £12, and it’s a hop-on, hop-off service – so you can explore both North and South Bays at your own pace. Even better, it runs every 10 minutes throughout the day.

Ticket prices:

Adult Single£3.00
Child Single£1.50
Child Day£2.50
Concessions Day£2.50
Beachcomber – 24 Hours£4.00
4 Person Day Ticket £12.00
5 Person Day Ticket £15.00
6 Person Day Ticket £18.00
7 Person Day Ticket £21.00

No need to pre-book – just hop on and pay onboard, or grab your ticket via the East Yorkshire Buses app.

If you’re thinking about exploring further along the coast, East Yorkshire’s Coaster services are running every day too:

  • Coaster 12, 12A, 12C & 13 connect Bridlington to Scarborough, passing through Hunmanby and Filey – ideal if you’re heading between the main towns or visiting one of the nearby holiday parks.

  • Coaster 14 runs from Bridlington to Flamborough North Landing, via Sewerby Hall and Thornwick Bay – a brilliant option if you’re planning cliff walks, a trip to the lighthouse, or a visit to Sewerby.

Thanks to the £3 single fare cap, it’s also a really cost-effective way to travel between coastal towns and villages this summer – whether you’re heading for beach days, arcades, or fish and chips by the sea.

So if you’re planning a summer trip to the Yorkshire Coast, this is a brilliant way to soak up the views, explore more of the coast, and enjoy the journey as much as the destination.
